lol. i'm just wondering why you guys shave...I'm just betting theres a whole host of unmanly looking legs...if mine were ripped i might consider it..but they arent...so they stay hairy...to hide their weakness.

It's just part of the sport. You don't go skiing or snowboarding without the right jacket/pants/googles etc, well some do but that's irrelevant to the useless point I'm making .

My legs are naturally so hairless as to look shaved. Some casual friends who know that I ride assume that I'm hardcore because it appears that I shave my legs. Of course, that causes me to be as hardcore as I can be so as to have ripped calves so as to justify shaving my legs (although I don't actually shave my legs).

er..
First time I shaved mine were the morning before my first race, back in 2012. It was a 70.3. Didn't plan on shaving, but threw on my race kit for the first time and saw how ridiculous it looked with furry legs.
Used a men's razor and was in a rush. Blood and cuts everywhere. 7am was the swim in salt water. That wasn't pleasant with the open cuts. Was last out of the water, but I can't blame the sting for that. Had the second fastest bike split that day though out of the entire field. Finished 3rd in my AG overall.
So yeah I was worried about looking silly too. But hell, maybe that helped.

Been shaving since 1998. If I let it slip for a little while, the feeling of air blowing through the longer stubble drives me nuts. I shave my arms as well, for all of the same reasons my legs are shorn (minus massage). It's nice to get out of the shower and dry off in 10 seconds.
I was chatting with a friend that I've known for over 15 years and the topic came up. I mentioned I shaved and her response was "weird". GIRL, IT'S BEEN 15 YEARS AND YOU THOUGHT I WAS NATURALLY THIS BARREN.

I've shaved a few times, only before very long road races and because I've actually been ridiculed for not shaving in group rides before lol. I'd say as requirements, have large muscular legs and ride in groups where the norm is shaved legs, but that's just my opinion.

I joined a racing club MANY years ago, and decided to shave to conform. Had one of those old single blade razors with the adjustable dial from 1 to 8. I figured I needed it on 8 for my hairy legs. Put it to my heel and pulled up. And took a six inch long 1/4 inch thick piece of flesh from my achilles. What a mess... and it hurt a bit.

I rode my first two seasons of racing with hairy legs. Crashed in a race 3 days after my first shave. Sold! Never wanted to go through the aftermath of a hairy crash again.

My reason for shaving is really simple. Being shaved before a crash makes for less road rash, a much cleaner wound, less raw skin to stick bandages to, faster recover and best of all, those sweet words from the ER nurse "thank you for shaving so I don't have to".

I'll shave my legs if I start racing. I'll use the extra 5 watts necessary to help me lose weight.

1. How many wrestlers, swimmers, track runners, or other “athletes” have Chewbaca status? Not many.
2. You worked for the physique, show it off.
3. Topic is worthless without pics.

How many sports are you leaving out? Lol. Body hair on male athletes is not rare. I think if you actually start to list out the sports/hobbies available to humans, you'll find most of them really couldn't care less about men shaving themselves. You're right, most don't look like "Chewbaca"...but a lot of that is because not every man is naturally a "Chewbaca". My legs have minimal hair, same with my arms. I'd still say it's the minority that does it, but not sure it really matters.
