Out of shape.
After prostate problems and eventually laser surgery back last June. I've finally been able to ride a bit since the weather is starting to cooperate. Did 8 miles the other day and it wore me out. At 65 years old I guess it takes a little longer to get back into shape.

Don't let it bother you. Just take it slow and the fitness will return before you know it.

Paraphrasing a popular sig line around here. 'I'm in shape. Round is a shape.' - Andy Rooney
The biggest issue I had with recovery was bad bursitis in the posterior region. Don't overdo it. Long and slow, just like most physiotherapy.

Robertj298 I am 79 and just started back after a eight month no riding. The first two short rides the legs were on fire. The third ride legs a lot better but I was still puffing a lot.. Yesterday and today forgot about the legs as no pain there and I road 10 miles none stop with no slowing down just a good steady pace. I felt great when i finished. A little later I felt tired but the good work out type of tired. Wife said wow you were gone for quite a while. I have started a few older people riding and I had to stop them from over doing it at the start. Ride for the fun of it.

Everybody's good and beat up by the time they hit 50.
You always hear former paratroopers complain about their knees and backs... my back has been cooked for years, but aside from the occasional problems here and there, my knees have been pretty good- until a couple of years ago. All of last year, I don't even think I did a single 25 mile ride. Add on to it a medication change that's not only slowed down my metabolism, but it makes me hungry all the time and I eat everything in sight... This year, I've done a bunch of small 1-2 mile rides around the neighborhood- but yesterday I did about a 9 mile ride. My knee did way better than I thought it would, but my legs were angry at me around a mile and a half. I'm still feeling it some today- not that I was pushing it- I'm just fat and out of shape.
