Robin's new bike
I bought a bike for Robin, my girlfriend, on Friday. She really was fairly clueless, but I went to the bike shop first and looked at what was there. When she arrived, she test rode this one and liked it. I paid for the bike. She bought the accessories. Fenders are on order. We're still trying to find a nice basket for the front.
It's a Norco Yorkville W. I figured an inexpensive hybrid is a good way to start. If she never really gets into it, not much money is spent.
On Saturday we attended a party that was a 20-mile round-trip. She wasn't ready to ride that distance, so we took the Big Dummy and used a trailer to carry two coolers and chairs.
I hope she continues to ride with me for years to come.

Sweet! You are a good BF. I think the basket should be purple. But I tend towards the wild.

Good for you (both)!
Well, that pretty much outstrips my shoes + pedals gift I gave my wife today. I wonder how long the goodwill lasts for a WHOLE BICYCLE!

She really loves the bike.
Correct! It's a Surly Big Dummy. I'd like to get a tandem eventually.
We rode together last night to her volleyball game, then to dinner. She borrowed a set of my lights. Still need to point her to some good ones to buy.

Holy ***, you pedaled that bike with your GF AND A TRAILER 20 miles?
I hope it was flatter than flat. I think my quad just cramped up thinking about doing a hill like that.

Well, the route was pretty flat. We did a shorter ride in a hillier part of town a while ago. That just meant 4mph climbs in a low gear. It also meant 35mph descents.

Out fishing with Annie on his lap, a cigar in one hand and a ginger ale in the other, watching the sunset.

I rode the Greenway in Minneapolis yesterday and saw at least four Big Dummies. It is home of Surly, so no surprise. People were carrying some mighty big loads on those things, and of course one guy with a pile of crap blasts by me.

Not to derail thread but I don't get the point of the Big Dummy...having the 2nd rider be just that a rider and not help with the "motor".
Nevermind...I get that was set up for a passenger...where the transport area is. Trek makes a similar bike I guess.

I doesn't look like it's setup to be a tandem at all.
And if you really want to score brownie points, give her the helmet.
