PayPal Scam
I want to let the members know that there is a PayPal Spoofing scam afoot. I received an email yesterday stating that there was a problem with the credit card that my PayPal account was linked to. It asked me to click on a link and correct my card information.
The site was a perfect spoof of the real PayPal site. If not for the fact that I don't have a credit card linked to the account, I might have been duped. I reported the incident to PayPal and was notified today that they are investigating.
I know that many members use the service - so beware.

Sometimes the simplest scams are the most effective. I got a text the other day from Wells Fargo that said something like - "there's a problem with your account, click here to read secure message". The more you understand how the scammers work the better you can protect yourself.

Whenever I get such messages, I simply log into whatever site as I normally would through a browser, not by clicking the link. If it is one of my banks, they generally have a place you can go to see all notices they sent to you, to verify if it is genuine. If it is something like Paypal, they generally won't let you do much until you correct the issue, and you will often be given the option to do so on login.
Truth is, even if the institute "looks into it", there is little they can do beyond sending out a general warning to customers. The email has already been sent, the servers it connects you to out of the US's jurisdiction, and in all honesty they probably have skimmed what they needed long before any investigation even began.

Financial companies should never tell you to click on a link they send you, and if they do, don't do it.
Of course, paypal did not send that scam out, so paypal doesn't have much power to stop people from spoofing their site.

On a similar note, bike forums is a nuisance site, polluted with redirect garbage. I'm sure many using the mobile version get those pesky scam pop ups. Doesn't matter if logged in or not.

I pay for my bikeforums subscription. I see no ads here. I'm happy.

The mobile version is a nuisance indeed. (Very) annoying video ads and missing bits in posts. Even on my phone I switch to the full version of the website.

I get the PayPal one couple times a month, also from the Apple store, and my iPad died years ago, and I have an Android Samsung phone. That's what the Spam button is for.

Not being critical here but the tiny cost of a membership makes an ad-free Bike Forums the best value anywhere. ...

The mobile site is awful, BUT, if you scroll down to the bottom of the C&V home page, you can click on "View Full Site" and it opens it to same view/functions you get on the regular version.

Always check the website link url, as well as the senders actual email domain. If you think there might actually be an issue, simply login to the main site not the link they email you.
