Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Advice on 06 Trek 2100 Please

Saw this add on craigslist and have been emailing the owner back and forth, just wondered what you guys/gals think. I've been test riding tons of bikes in the last few months and now it's time to purchase. Just wondering what you guys/gals think?

Add on CL for a 2006 Trek 2100:

"I have a nice 58cm. Trek 2100 for sale that I can no longer ride. My loss is your gain! (specified the reason why selling when I asked through email, also is sending more pictures)

Included are the following items:
1) Trek 2100 Bike (carbon fiber front/rear forks, seat/handlebar posts), carbon fiber tri-bars, dura ace pedals, bontrager race wheels, shimano 105 hardware)
2) Specialized Carbon Fiber shoes (sz 44 mens)
3) Riding Gloves (size L womens)
4) Giro Lance Armstrong signature helmet and case
5) Underseat repair kit loaded up.

This can get somebody new completely started in triathlons!
"
Price $750

that would have been gone in a day in DC. Poeple here pay good $$ for garbage. More than a fair price here in DC especially if the shoes fit and the bike is in good condition.

Do the shoes and helmet fit you? If so, it's not an unreasonable prices if the bike also fits you.

I've been looking at this trek above and an 09 CAAD9-7 from my LBS for $850. I don't mind spending the money, I'd just like to get something that's good for a beginner but also has room for me to grow with it when I gain more experience. Also I hate the (sora up top on the caad) I can't reach the button to shift when in the drops.

I wear size 12 shoes, and will have to try them and the helmet on when I take it for a test ride. It's 2hrs away from where I'm located so I have the gent sending me more photo's too.

I have the same bike. I've been riding it for three years. It's a very good bike. Since you are getting helmet, shoes, gloves and pedals which all cost more than hundred dollars, I say it's a good deal.
Make sure it's your size.
