Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Under Appreciated Brands on the Road

There are many, many logos on frames to choose from. But most around where I am read; Trek, Specialized, Felt, Cannondale, & Giant. A shame I think, because there are many more worthy to be seen more, or recognized more. (Cervelo isn't common but what many dream/drool on here).

What brands deserve more recognition on road bikes? I'll start with Marin. Their Stelvio is a fine ride, & a relatively nice price.

CAAD's don't seem to get very much attention...

Makes no sense to list marques that aren't who or what they used to be. Fuji is just another brand owned by a conglomerate and used to fill a certain price point. Merlin is not at all the bike that it once was being now a house decal stuck on a mass produced bike and sold only by Competitive Cyclist. What better example could there be than Motobecane, a house brand of Bikes Direct? These are just names purchased for marketing clout to stick on bikes all made in a big, nondescript factory. If you want to list lesser known but real current bike makers, you have to try a bit harder.

Most people buy within price points and most ride fairly modern bikes. I think the OP is probably focused on modern bikes that don't get much attention. That's the way I read it anyway.

Proof that Fuji is under-appreciated. They are the flagship brand of ASI. Maybe they don't have the research investment that some of the bigger guys have, but they put out a decent product.

I'll 3rd Fuji. They're not the company of the 1980's of course, but I think they have designs that're actually performance instead of marketing! SST with ribbed DT for stiffness, Altamira is undeniably light (but not a flimsy noodle), and their Transonic has gotten many stars in reviews!

I've ridden Tarmacs & Altamiras many times for many miles, & I'd take a Fuji over the Specialized.

Yes, I was thinking of today's lineups.

I'll bring Lapierre to the thread, but I'll admit I'm biased. (I own a Xelious efi)
They have the attention in Europe, but they do exist here. Unrecognized by most.

Always have put out a decent product or even better, but it is not like there is a personality driving it any more.

I'm not looking for 'great personality' when picking machines. Personality is what people resort to for bragging up ugly blind dates and old cars that are hard to keep running.

That's fine. I just meant that nobody like the original family was in charge to give the company its character and purpose. Say like Specialized. But sure, Fuji is a fine bicycle.

There are still people there giving the company character and purpose.
