Can't wait to see the bike. Going through similar decision making on panniers for the new bike lol! So far expensive is winning.

I am thinking brown seat, silver cranks, silver levers, pink pedals, silver cages. And a nice golden yellow handlebar bag to match the logo.

Bottle cages are staying, as they are original. Levers, some day.

I love purple, but you can't overwhelm it too much, you need complimentary colors for vibrancy

eric/fresno, ca.
Those are iSSi Thumps, and yes, I realized fairly quickly I should have ordered the pink. I'll correct that when these wear out. Cable housing is pink.

But where to find a nice brown saddle? I know, leather, but I don't ride with padded undies, so I need a little padding on the saddle.

Nope. The levers are original, only because that's where I got tired of spending money. Eventually they will be replaced with silver.

No yellow! I want the Highlighter Pink Road Runner Burrito Supreme. It'll have to wait for a while; MIL is in hospital and I can't spend money.

Actually, most people I know, including myself, who ride leather saddles, do without padded shorts. I find my leather saddle is more comfortable without the padded shorts.

Hey, you can get pink tires too.

But I like my brown tires! If Road Runner had a decent brown, I'd get that bag.

Hmm, well I am totally partial to leather, and I don't ride with padded anything and it is no issue! I've topped out at 25ish miles in a day. That super long day I had a bit of soreness, but I also hadn't ridden much leading up to it.

Now I am doing about a 5 mile commute on a Brooks 17s. And will have a Rivet Loveland on custom bike.

So little bit of padding and brown?
Maybe this one from Velo Orange?

I ride longer than that without padded shorts on my B17. My longest day so far was 70 miles, but then did 35 the next day, then 50, then...

I am sure the limiting factor is me and not the saddle! I have yet to try riding further.

The plan this summer is to work on increasing my range! I also bike in dresses quite often.

The only time it really wasn't comfortable was when I rode in jeans for too long. And that of course was the jeans, and not the saddle. Those jeans seams are hazardous! I can make it about 3 miles in jeans and after that it is terrible. A dress on the other hand, or workout clothing, are not a problem.

I understand. Most of my rides now are fairly short trips around town. I do get out occasionally for a 20-40 mile ride though.

Clothing definitely makes a difference. I have some pants I can ride all day in, and others not so much.

@jade408, I get that. A couple of days ago I rode about 5 miles running errands in my slightly-too-stretchy jeans on a warm, sunny day. It was gross; should have changed my pants. My kit comes from Target; women's exercise capris and men's athletic tees. Very comfortable if not stylish.

For me it is the seams! Weather here is pretty mild, so I don't typically get hot beyond my neck.

Mild is relative; that warm day was 62F. And yes, seams suck. My poor husband, who is obese and extremely self-conscious, will only ride in jeans.

There's a three step process for this:

1) Cycle shorts under quick dry camp shorts. Not a cycling liner, actual spandex cycle shorts hidden under something else

2) When out on the ride, start taking off the overshorts for greater comfort, then put them back on when returning to "civilization"

3) Stop caring what anyone else thinks

Thanks, but he will never wear shorts in this lifetime. Ever.

Push the bike shorts as "underwear" and get long quick drying trousers to wear over them?

What I'm willing to leave the house in, and what I'm willing to return or get on a train or duck into a store in after umpteen hours in the saddle are two very different things.

(On a practical level, when I plan a ride that has a something like a long ride home on a commuter train, once I cool down I duck into a restroom and replace the cycle stuff with an everyday base layer, then I do put the shorts or whatever on over, as this is much better than sitting for an hour and a half in wet cycling stuff under air conditioning vents)

Sweatpants could maybe be an option. I mean, if he's still willing to go out biking in jeans, good on 'im. But if he finds jeans uncomfortable, sweats would be better

Oh sweats are at least as bad as shorts. You have no idea what I had to go through to get him to try stretch jeans. It's all good, I guess he's riding his own ride.

I wonder if I can find someone to insert gussets in his cycling jeans...?

I picked up a pair of 5.11 tactical shorts from the salvation army, I think they had a gussetted crotch that was much less seam-y than jeans. They definitely make pants, and it is probably common for 'hiking' pants to have similar construction.

But if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I don't understand how anybody can stand biking in jeans, but people do.

Levi's commuter 511 jeans have a gussset and are only slightly stretchy. I bet if you didn't tell him so he wouldn't notice.
