We did a little Thanksgiving day ride today with 22 mph winds gusting to 50. All was good until we stopped to use the bathroom. I propped my bike against a fence and the wind blew it over. Of course, it fell on the derailleur side. I ended up bending the hanger. My 10 speed cassette is 12-23. I couldn't put it in the 23 because the derailleur was hitting the spokes. And, when in the 21 it kept self-shifting to the 19. So, 15 miles to home in a 22 mph headwind was not fun, especially over the bridges.

I straightened right after lunch. So, all is good.

We're down at the beach in NC and did a 20-some mile ride while the grandbabies were sleeping off their morning at the beach.

21.5 mph average on the favorable wind leg, 13.5 on the headwind leg for an average of 17.5. Winds were steady but gusting around 30.

Rainy weekend coming so got out for a quick spin today. I rode through the UVA grounds and swung by the UVA - Virginia Tech game. Lots of boos and groans were coming from the maroon VT section so I suspect there was a call they didn’t approve of on the near side of the field. Finished the ride, hopped on my town bike for an errand and then went home for the rest of the game. Here the TV view, first pic was taken from just above the left hand goal post and the flag.

I got the '61 Legnano out for 9.5 miles today, first ride in 6 days. Crazy wind, holiday prep, and the resultant eating, big time rain, even snow kept me off the bike. Ran out of excuses, time to ride. The nearby hills got dusted by snow last night. It was only up on the mountain, and gone by 10 am, which is the way I like snow. Happy day after Thanksgiving!

All the snow I need. We've had more, but not for a while.

Snow was gone by 10, but still chilly 50s, breezy, clouds still hanging around. Yes, we are spoiled in SoCal.

I managed to get in 22.35 miles yesterday morning before the snow started. Developed ice in my water bottle. No pizza though.

How's it looking this morning, Jim? We got us a foot up this way. No riding today, but I will be riding the tractor and plowing the white stuff.

Ugh. It is very ughly. Ugly too. We had 3 inches last night, then rain. Everything is covered with wet snow. They predict some ice, then another few inches tonight. If it doesn't melt or sublimate away my bike commutes are done for the year. I can deal with cold down to the low 20's but not with ice on the ground.

You probably got real snow, didn'tcha'?

I rode up past the local 60s era airport, possibly serviced by Air America, at one time the airline with the most flights per day. Lots of gravel and rocks
here is the old control tower.

And this one is a few local women harvesting rice.

Yesterday's ride. 15-25mph north wind but around 55 degrees in North Texas. The headwinds were brisk and it was pretty chilly with the wind coming off the water at times, but it was a great 26 mile solo ride on my '76 Motobecane Grand Touring.

It's a Selle Monte Grappa Oxford
Club saddle.

I ordered it out of Europe two years back.

It's not Brooks quality but its working for me so far. I think I got it for $55 to $60.
Finish is coming off in places but not terrible.

They also offered it in black and a fully sprung version.

Hi, how do you like those Powerblock tires? I looked for reviews on them, and there aren't really any. Your bike looks to be very well set up for commuting.

Thanks.
I ride all over the Dallas area and appreciate a fatter tire to help with the rough streets.

I like the Powerblocks. I think they are a decent folding tire weighing in at about
550 g's.

For me they are a toss up with the Maxxis DTH tires that are also folding and weigh about the same. I've had both maybe for 2 years.

Both are proving to be pretty flat resistant for me. Also rolling resistance for both falls within my acceptable range.

Both also are in the same price range.
I think I paid around $35 per tire.
