Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I think you have to be < 100 miles from the coast, not 500 miles from the coast.

Distinction without a difference.

Have you figured out what riding in a tunnel is like yet?

It takes me half an hour of Z2 to get to the initial climb. A full hour to get into the good stuff.

I wish I could answer that. When I did the annual 4th visit, and brought my bike, I was able to snag some KOMS which held until the local talent got cranky. I did some 3x20' LT up Stevens Pass one time, and was quite happy with my numbers, and was dejected when I couldn't duplicate them up here, so it is a real thing. It was a full 20+ watts, and I was happy. When I read others numbers at sea level, I'm impressed, but also realize I could be around there too, so it's all relative. They would come up here, and have to be human like the rest of us up here.

That would be like me calling Oakland "basically LA".
I can tell you that when there's a fire or an earthquake in LA or San Diego, I get friends from Back East asking if I'm okay. That's like there's a fire in Miami and asking if people in DC are affected.

got all suited up, took two cranks and decided to take the day off. Suppose to be upper 50s tomorrow morning.
Ive never had to use cream in by bibs, but I think the cold dry air is changing that. I sat on my seat this morning and the area where my butt meets my legs felt raw.

Happens with hurricanes in Houston as well.

However, the point is that all these people are wrong, as with those who call Knoxville "east coast".
