Oh, and for those who wonder why I hate socially-required gift-giving:
I finally got AG to be ok with donating the Roomba her mother bought us three homes ago. We don't use it (cleaning services are relatively cheap in Texas, and we've had houses that aren't conducive to using it) but we've lugged the damn thing - new in box! - for years because of guilt over "it's a gift". We appreciate the gesture but it was a total waste that just fed into the consume and discard cycle with no utility.

Way back. The short story is that I lost consciousness walking on the sidewalk while running errands during lunch on Friday the 13th. Obviously fell, abraded by forehead, fractured my left thumb, banged my right knee, bit the inside of my left lip and hurt the left side of my jaw. Was in the hospital until the following Monday. Likely cause yet to be determined.

Also, besides the turkeys, the roads were so nice and quiet. Other than the lack of zombies, it had a post-apocalyptic vibe... but in a good way.

The turkey population in the metro area seems pretty robust these days. I never saw them when I was a kid, but started seeing them onesie-twosie when we moved back to MN seven or eight years ago. The last couple years, they've gotten bold. They'll strut out on to a 35mph street and give the cars that "I'm walkin' here!" attitude.

There's a feature in the JS that stores some amount of content in the user's cache and doesn't load new unless it detects that there's new content on the server. However, it appears to be able to get desynched and be stale without knowing, and so when it attempts to load the new page it helpfully checks whether the content has changed. Because it thinks it hasn't, it keeps you on the last page with content on your local cache. That's why posting onto the locked page works (it knows the content on the page has changed) but doesn't unlock the previous page. Then when you delete your browser cache and attempt to view the locked page, it can't find anything locally (of course) and loads all the new content and takes you to the requested page.
The workaround was simple to figure out; the JS is too ugly to easily figure out the cause by looking at the code. I may do some experimentation later to see if I can reliably repro the error.

Welp, a Black Friday deal got me - a new (used) lens is on the way. I'd been waiting on one of a few retailers to pop up with a good sale, and one finally did (25% off - 
).
This is actually going to be replacing an existing lens, though, and I should be able to sell the current lens for more than the purchase price of the inbound lens. I'll be going from a Zeiss 35mm f/1.4 Distagon to a Zeiss Loxia 35mm f/2 Biogon, for the zero or so of you that are interested. The current Distagon produces some stunning images and, optically, it's probably the favorite of any lens that I've owned. Unfortunately, it's also on the big side and weighs a cool 1.1kg with adapter - that pretty much ensures that it gets left at home for anything except special occasions that don't involve too much walking. The new Loxia will come in much smaller and feathery in comparison (more than 700g lighter!), so it'll be viable pretty much all the time.
