Fausto Coppi Reparto Corse

I picked this up today. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. It's quite a canvas to work with. It's obviously got a modern vibe, which plays into my tastes. It may feel modern enough to go Shimano. I think either black or silver components could work.

Using Coppi's name for branding like this seems a bit hokey. I think this bike was built in 1997. On the other hand, it was the bike Team Polti raced on so it has some pedigree. Plus, it's just a nice frame. I found it looking for the later Columbus tubing blends on eBay.

What do you think? Any build suggestions?

had a 2002 coppi ksc aluminum/carbon frame which was my favorite frame of all time and put 50k+ miles on it until it got "retired" by a rear end collision in dec 2019.
once in a while, one of the steel frames will flash across the sales mediums but not often. there aren't a lot of coppi frames out there. the frame i had was
the same frame that salvodelli (il falco) won the giro on in 2002. i have come this close to picking up one of the columbus neuron steel framesets multiple
times but it was always a sizing or condtion issue. geometry seemed more relaxed...similar to the lemond frames in the same late 90's-early 2000's time period.

I think you need to find or have made Coppi pantographed parts as it’s not quite over the top yet with its Coppi branding.

Agree that those frames are some of the best frame building and riding experiences. I also had a neuron setup that rode like a dream. Genius was suppose to be an improvement on that and I would like to find out ...

Sweet bike!

Appearance wise that's a lot like the Duell frame I got back on the road this year. I too debated black or silver components. Finally able to get a better deal on black Campagnolo parts and went that way. If it helps here's how it looks with the black.

9 Speed Dura Ace would be perfect. Also some modestly aero tubular rims with < 25mm tires.

Given that Polti was supplied by Shimano in 1997, 7700 series Dura-Ace would be the obvious choice, despite the Italian frame.

Excellent suggestion. I count 16 places that it says “Coppi” right now. With pantographed parts I could get that up over 20. I believe the original saddle also had the Coppi name embroidered on it.

Good point about Polti’s equipment.

This is very helpful. I’ve got a yellow LeMond with black 105 components that I was thinking of moving over to the Coppi. I wasn’t sure how the black would work with the green accents. I think what these pics have done is to verify my earlier hypothesis that either black or silver would work. The lure of Campagnolo parts on an Italian bike is almost irresistible, but I’ve already got a lot of full Campy bikes and I’d get it on the road sooner with Shimano. Decisions, decisions.

@LucasHartong does yours have the year stamped on the bottom bracket? Mine has what looks like a serial number (ominously, it’s “1960”) next to — but distinctly separate from — “97” and “57”, the latter being the frame size.

Well, I have to admit I've got several bikes running Dura Ace 7700 and love them. Good stuff!

It only has "351", which probably is the serial number, and "58", which is the actual frame size.

Thanks for the pic. Here's mine. The "57" is out of picture, just past the "97".

I don't do <25mm tires. To my surprise, it looks like 28's will fit this frame as long as the front derailleur doesn't bump them. I also like to have triples on all my bikes (I know, not very fitting for a race bike), but I see that the 7700 group was available with a triple.

Alright, so let's get this build started. Let's assume for the moment that I'll probably end up with a Shimano drivetrain and brakes. Maybe silver, maybe black. TBD.

First step -- headset. I have on hand:

1. Miche Primato -- needle bearings -- if I'm not mistaken, this is the headset on the Duell that @jamesdak shared above
2. Campagnolo Super Record -- rider condition, a few wrench marks on the locknut -- might polish up nicely -- might be a little too much stack
3. Campagnolo Record Strada -- excellent condition -- very shiny

Would you choose one of these or shop for something else?

Exactly how I feel about my Reparto Corse.

Mine is a similar color, with blue, as well. A newer model.
Genius tubing, Columbus Carve carbon wishbone and fork. From right here on BF C&V.
So far, a carbon crankset, 10-speed Ultegra FD, RD, calipers.
DA7900 down tube shifters, Soma brake levers.
To date, no wheels make sense.

I think you can get away with anything black.

Vote for the Miche. Campagnolo and Shimano mixed causes me cognitive dissonance - they must be separated to retain me sanity.
