I'm reading The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsany.
Plot summary from Wikipedia:
"The lord of Erl is told by the parliament of his people that they want to be ruled by a magic lord. Obeying the immemorial custom, the lord sends his son Alveric to fetch the King of Elfland's daughter, Lirazel, to be his bride. He makes his way to Elfland, where time passes at a rate far slower than the real world, and wins her. They return to Erl and have a son, but in the manner of fairy brides of folklore, she fits uneasily with his people. She returns to the waiting arms of her father in Elfland, and her lovesick husband goes searching for her, abandoning the kingdom of Erl and wandering in a now-hopeless quest. However, Lirazel becomes lonesome for her mortal husband and son. Seeing that she is unhappy, the King of Elfland uses a powerful magic to engulf the land of Erl. Erl is transformed into a part of Elfland, and Lirazel and her loved ones are reunited forever in an eternal, enchanted world.
During the course of the novel, the King of Elfland uses up all of the three powerful magic spells he had been reserving for the defense of his realm."

Cheers
Edit. Addendum.
There was also an Album made based on this story. A couple of songs in it were sung by Mary Hopkin, a Welsh singer who is known for her hit song, Those were the Days. One of the songs on the album is Lirazel and I think it's a delightful song and suitable for young children. Here's the link and the song. Enjoy.

Finished listening to A Brotherhood Betrayed: The Man Behind the Rise and Fall of Murder, Inc., by Michael Cannell. A good read about the Jewish and Italian thugs who ran and operated the quite active killers for hire operation in the 1930's and early 40's.
Finished listening to Dark Companion, a nifty short off-beat noirish crime novel. Lots of surprising twists.
Started listening to Twilight of the Gods: War in the Western Pacific, 1944-1945, by Ian W. Toll.

But Humbert is such an evil guy, as that whole book is a sort of mishap left in my mouth — and it's beautifully written, wickedly funny. I'm reading that again after seeing everyone here rave about it. Anybody else feels like this?
