I’ve been out on the bike both days this weekend.
On Saturday, I rode a short loop from home that took me up to Rattlesnake Lake via the Uplands which has a pretty steep grade for over a mile. !st real climb since my accident. The arm felt OK but the rest of me was in S L O W…..M O T I O N. Oh well, getting back into shape will take time and patience.

I felt pretty good today. Got in a nice 2 mile climb up Snoqualmie Ridge on the way to Fall City and ended up with 50 miles and 3000 Ft of elevation gain.

I went riding both Sunday and Monday. Forgive me for posting a day or two late. I haven't been riding much since the holidays, so it felt nice to get out again (even if it rained from start to finish). Here's a shot fitting for the MLK, Jr. holiday weekend.
On Monday, I joined fellow forum members @davester and @numbernine and a couple other riders for a ride around the east bay hills--a popular loop known as the Bears. The sun was out and it was a glorious day. Toward the end of the ride, took a slight diversion and got in a little bit of gravel and mud. (Reminds me, I still need to clean off my Merlin.)
After Sunday's ride, my shoes were still wet Saturday morning, and I noticed the sole was starting to come detached from my vintage shoes. By the end of Monday's ride, there wasn't much holding them together. Damn that vintage epoxy. I should be able to stick 'em back together. Glad that ride wasn't much longer!

@noobinsf, thanks! How long obviously depends on how fast you go and where you start. For me, I start in the Berkeley flats near Gilman. It's just over 38 miles total from my house, and a tick over 4,000' of climbing. I go up Spruce to Wildcat Canyon Rd., around the reservoir via Bear Creek Road-Alhambra Valley-Castro Ranch Rd.-San Pablo Damn Rd., then back up Wildcat and down Spruce into Berkeley again.) For hilly rides like this, I typically average 14-15mph solo, so that's about 2.5 to 3 hours without stops. Definitely worth a trip to the East Bay. You could BART out to North Berkeley and take Cedar up to Spruce and go from there.

Moon Valley is a dead end road so it’s an ‘out and back’ route only a few miles long, but it’s interesting. We got back onto the main road, skirting the town of North Bend and rode East out to Mt. Si Road which is another dead end, out and back. It climbs gently for a few miles, following the Middle Fork of the Snoqualmie River. We turn around at the Mt. Tenerife Trailhead Parking lot and soon we are effortlessly spinning back down at a good clip because of the grade. We make our way back to Snoqualmie where Stu’s car is parked We split up there and I head home.

Bought a Salsa Blackborow on sale. It's like buying a mule that I don't have to feed.
I ride it year round up at the cabin.
It's tremendously overbuilt and is super fun to use on fire roads in the BWCA.
Can carry all the fishing gear, a float tube, tent and camping supplies.
Just remember, there is no substitute for float on deeper snow. Same goes for loose gravel and sand.
You can really lower the pressure on these tires. Floats over stuff and is super plush.
Treat yourself and don't forget to look for used examples in the spring when they are cheaper.

Looks like a lot of fun Stu and Matt.
No riding. 3 week post op doctor visit is this Wednesday. I headed up to the hills where I normally ride the mtb and got in a 3 mile walk this morning in 50 degree temps and soft soil and packed snow. Nice to actually drive a car again. I'm able to average 2.5 to 3 miles per walk right now before the neck really starts to spasm.

Whole lotta fun, indeed. A dry and somewhat sunny streak in January with temps near 50F means GO!

Last summer I was trying to keep up with cycling despite a hectic work schedule, until I threw my hip out of whack and had some serious sciatic nerve pain that prevented me from getting my leg over, much less riding, a bicycle.
A steady, healthy dose of yoga and a few well-timed trips to the chiropractor straightened all of that out just as the cold season hit, so that gave me an excuse to stay off. Today is a wonderful day and seeing as it's Sunday and I should be able to get out and have some fun, I decided to mount up! I took the 1951 New Hudson Silver Arrow out, at first just into town for a coffee (six miles away). Still feeling good, I challenged myself to get out to a canal that I like riding to, and ended up making it without a fuss. So that's a 28 mile round for my first ride in half a year! Felt good!

Out with @Andy_K and two other friends, Adam and Phil - cyclocross racers from Andy's team. We met out near Troutdale and road out on The Gorge to Multnomah Falls and back. It was foggy and cold for almost all of the ride. More than once we noted that it was great to be riding uphill so we could warm back up.

The descent down from there on a winding road with visibility limited to about 10 feet was interesting. The scenery was nice once we got down into the gorge, but I don't have any pics of that.
Yesterday, I got in a solo ride on familiar roads in the Scholls/Farmington area. The pics from that ride captured the scenery a bit better.
Tragically, the lunch stop closed before I got there.
The Portland Women's Forum viewpoint is renowned for its panoramic view of the Columbia River Gorge.
