Grease for thru axle

What grease is suitable on a thru axle? Got the first snowfall of the season and I’m thinking it’s time to move the bike to the trainer. I picked one up from The Robert Axle Project on a recommendation. Just realized I have limited options at home. Yellow lithium grease/ white lithium spray / dry lube. Should I put this off until I can go pick up something else?

The Lithium grease should do the trick just fine. I like to keep a tube of Phil Wood grease on hand at all times as well but not absolutely needed just good grease from a good company.

Thanks. I will add that to my pick up list. I have a garage full of often useful items but not in this case, and I completely let it slip my mind.

The only reason to grease a thru-axle is to prevent corrosion from water or sweat. The axle is not a bearing race and does not need lube to prevent wear so any type of grease is more than adequate.

+1 to this, plus a thin film will suffice. You don't need gobs of it.

Any type of grease. In all honesty you could use crisco.

Real grease, just like you do on your stem bolts, etc... Put a little on the threads, then a light coat over the rest of the axle or you will be back wondering where this ticking sound is coming from when you hammer out of the saddle.
