Newport news is my home airport. But I use richmond, newport news and norfolk. I was trying to get on norfolk but it was over sold, so I didn’t get a seat.
Airlines want you to live in base, commuting is my choice so it’s not the airlines responsibility to get me home. With that being said, I have already had 2 base closures in 6 years, I can’t keep moving my family around.

def. a catch 22. I got spoiled the last couple of months and had assumed that the commuting nightmare would be gradual. I didn’t expect it to be so abrupt. Brings back a lot of negative thoughts, but I am happy the flights are full. Just need to be mentally prepared for the struggle to get home.

Did a climb I probably haven't done this last decade. Still the same - about 4 miles of redwood-shaded grind, about 1600 feet. Since I haven't ridden it in 10 years, I took it easy, so I didn't have to worry about blowing up. I remembered it pretty well - knew where various landmarks would pop up.
From the top, I turned left and headed down the spine of the Santa Cruz Mountains a couple miles. At first, climbing another 270 feet before dropping 1100 feet to the crossroads of the descent off ridge. I'd forgotten just how steep and long that descent is, and it's been so dry down here I hadn't figured on the road being wet, which it was in spots. So I discovered the problem with not having done a lot of serious climbing for a good 10 years - I've forgotten how to descend smoothly. I was going WAY slower than I know I could, burning up the brakes, literally yelling at myself to relax and let go of the brakes as I turned.
I used to LOVE that descent! Today, I couldn't wait for it to end. MAN! I need more practice!

BTW - speaking as we were yesterday of Strava issues, my Garmin must have been having issues, because the ride misses the road A LOT in the mountains. Like, the route has the same shape, but is way off the actual track. Which meant I didn't pick up a lot of segments, including the full length of the climb.

The group's end-of-year ride, last night, could have went better.
A group irregular, a guy with a reputation for being squirrelly at times, drifted in to another guy and may or may not have gotten his drops hooked on the other guy's straight bars. Regardless, the end result was that he went down and took out one other guy that was behind him. The squirrelly guy was the only one injured, but he got banged up pretty good - broken clavicle and concussion.
His girlfriend was not happy when she got the call and came to pick him up and blamed our "drinking game," though the tumble took place early in the ride and no one was even remotely intoxicated (nevermind that there wasn't enough drinking during the entirety of the ride to get anyone drunk). Trying to explain to the gf that he was at fault wasn't a bridge that anyone wanted to cross, though.

WhyFi I just got off of the phone with my buddy/former colleague that lives literally a few blocks away from you (near the shore of Lake Harriett) sounds like the weather has sucked real bad, hope it warms up.

I think I have a seatpost that is creaking. I think I can eliminate bottom bracket because it only does it when I'm on the saddle. I also can feel a strong vibration in the seatpost. Thoughts to identify and troubleshoot? Take it out slather on lube of some sort and reinstall? This is the awesome, lightweight and aero seatpost in case it matters.
TIA

The last ride of the year is always super casual - plain clothes and commuter/utility bikes, no sprints, pacelines or anything like that. As far as the crash itself, we were riding two-up, chatting with the person next to us. I heard a "whoa whoa whoa!" from one of the other guys, looked up and saw squirrely guy at the front, leaning a shoulder in to the guy he was riding beside, going down shortly thereafter (I was surprised that only one other guy went down). Afterwards, the guy that called out the "whoa, whoa, whoa!" said that squirrely had drifted over and found himself close to the centerline and, in correcting, came back to the right too far and too fast.
Our club had a very squirrelly rider, we tried to educate him but he just did not get it and it was so bad that we had to banish him.

I know that he's been talked to, but I don't know to what extent. The guy most likely to give him an earful wasn't there but, given the injury, it probably would have went unsaid for the time being, anyway. As mentioned, I've only ridden with him a few times and, frankly, I didn't notice anything the other times (I wasn't yet aware of the rep and wasn't exactly looking out for him).
