LOL, it's kinda comical having to touch base every time something pops up for these bikes. You'll have to let me know if and which one of those seat posts you win

Southpawboston(?) posted a list of U.S. bike parts manufacturers and one of them makes children's riding gear. I thought the link would fit in this thread, too.

Latest thing in the mail today: One happy 5 year old

A 450A Gitane- with fenders and a rack! 21" stand over height (2" less than the Minibecane) 3x1 speed Simplex derailleur (rather than Svelto, I think it's a retrofit). I know the stem lever mount is not OEM. The front ring is really small (32 teeth) so I may swap it for a 40 tooth Gitane ring I have.

More Pics of both forthcoming:

That little bike is adorable. Where would you get tires for it?

Hutchison and Schwalbe still make tires in that size. The Hutchisons are faster but i have to buy them from SJS cycles in the UK. (Hutchison doesn't import them to the States)

Update

Well, on inspection the fork bend on the little Moto is up at the crown. I'm going to have to shelve that build for now. BUT, I am going to swap the crank and wheels to the Gitane (which fits) to get decent gearing. Also I'm swapping the Simplex for an Alvit clamp-on set I got. She should really go with a 42/16 top gear

The Ofmega crankset has arms that are too long for this wheel size- no biggie, it's all flat here anyway. Maybe one of the bigger girls can use it on their bikes (that do have 68mm BB's- Thank You Gitane)

I am going to remove the Gitane's fenders for now- no sense dinging them up- If we'll be riding in the wet or on limestone they're easy enough to put back on.

More pics soon.

maybe 1lugnut will take the crankset off of you, or you take his frame!

the ratios you can check by riding with the child.

Nelli's top gear is in my opinion is too low, I could drop a tooth as she tops out on the decending flats.
from this info I worked out the correct ratio for her F.Moser Junior

They usually are. Genna can spin out on the flats on her 500A Gitane. She's getting clipless this season. Not nearly as bad as new kids bikes though- grossly undergeared for the street/track.

that frame seems way too small to be a junior. I bet it is a salespiece
the dimensions dont make any sense...
it would look good hanging on a wall-but I am sure it will cost something!

I had to ask about the size...

"its a 12 inch
YES more than that its really a Masi,
Cal, John, brian, and mike work there.
Mr masi came in and cut a frame up that was not up to his standard,
than when he went back to Italy they made a small bike for fun
thats the story of this bike

Moto-Gitane

Here's the 450A Gitane finally ready for my 5 y.o. I snagged the drivetrain off the Moto for now. Calculated 18 mph @ 120 rpm

Other side:

Size comparison to my Schwinn Suburban

She should cook on this

Got this refurbed and back together for now, all stock because I'm not sure I want to spend money upgrading anything just yet.
Diamond frame makes standover tough for my 6 y.o. till he gows some.
Am considering selling it but may change the build to fit him better with flat bars and single speed initially.

20" wheel 1x5 gear
