"Daily" saddle bag vs "Century" saddle bag
I have a pair of Topeak saddle bags. I have a Topeak "Micro" (which is very small) for daily riding and I'm building up a Topeak "Small" (which is not that small) for an upcoming century ride.
Daily Saddle Bag
-1 tube
-1 CO2 cartridge
-1 CO2 inflater
-1 tiny bag of baby powder
-1 $5 bill
-1 set of tire spoons plus Slime patches (which have been worthless but the spoons work well)
Century Saddle Bag
-1 tube
-2 CO2 cartridges
-1 CO2 inflater
-1 tiny bag of baby powder
-1 $5 bill
-1 set of tire spoons plus Slime patches
-1 Park mini-size chain breaker
-1 KMC quick link
-1 Topeak multi-tool gadget (allen wrenches, screwdrivers, etc)
-1 Park tire boot
Anything missing?
I'll take the "Century" bag with me on longer rides where I'm riding alone and/or when it'd be difficult to have someone come and get me. I also have a Topeak Pocket Master Blaster pump in case the CO2 fails and/or if I run out.
Thanks,
Bob

If you like what you run with in terms of co2 plus pump (I'd just get a pump that can get pretty high pressures, ditch the co2), bring a small spoke wrench.
I also like to bring 2 tubes.
I also like to bring 2 tubes.

I use a pump to get most of the air in for free... then co2 it to top off. Works very nice... @ +200 lbs most compact pumps wont get to +100psi

I would:
- Get rid of the CO2 cartridges and inflater (you got a pump).
- Get rid of the baby powder (?). You can powder the tubes.
- Get decent patches.
- Change the $5 for $20.
- I don't think the chain tool is essential.
Lighter is better.

I just have one bag. A Topeak medium Aero Wedge Pack. I am not doing century rides at the moment, I am doing 30-40 mile rides and I carry three C02 cartridges, an Air Chuck SL inflator, two tubes, a patch kit, one tire iron and a master link. I probably should carry a multi tool and a tire boot but haven't bought them yet.

I'd go with two tubes + pump + tire boot. I rode a century a couple of years back and got caught in a rain. Had three flats in two miles. Used both of my tubes and one from a riding buddy.

All my riders have an identical setup.
1 Zefal seat bag from Walmart
2 Specialized tire levers
2 CO2 cartridges, one inflator (they vary)
1 tubes, a pack of Scabs, presta adapter
5mm hex key (I don't use QR skewers)
$1 bill, new.
There's room for my cell and car keys.
For centuries, I add a tube and a boot.
Cell goes in my jersey so I can take photos and call ahead for cold beer.
If I ride the tubulars, I use a Pedro's mini-bag with no tube(s), tucked up in the top tube/seat tube joint. The spare tubular tire is in back.

Yeah ... I don't think a $5 will be terribly useful, unless you need to emergency-patch a flat. And I'd bring the allen wrenches no matter what.
Also, bring your safety banjo.

I have only one bag used for all rides: an early 1980s vintage Burley tire sock with a spare tubular, a Park multi tool, spoke wrench, and a few wet wipes and band aids. Money/ID/cell phone go in a jersey pocket. Works for me.

I only bother with one bag no matter how far I'm going. One tube, 2 CO2 & a nozzle, some levers. Anything else I toss my debit card in my jersey, everyone here accepts debit.

Bag??? It would spoil the killer looks of my seat post. Isn't that what those three pockets in the back of the jersy for?

one bag for all rides is all you need. on a century there are plenty of other riders with carrying too much stuff that will be more then happy to help. plus, there is typically support of some kind. enjoy. later.

I don't rely on others, I rely on odds. My normal daily rides are 50-70 miles and I have had one flat this year and it was in the garage. The bike doesn't know it is doing a century. I only carry one tube, a patch kit, a tire lever, small pump, hand wipes. Cell phone and debit card in the jersey pocket.

The only reason I have a different bag, is for a different bike, which requires a different size tube. I[m just too lazy to keep switching tubes in the saddle bag.
I use the same size saddle bag on all rides except I just jam more stuff in my jersey pockets on longer rides.

Bob, I also carry a cotton ball and a tweezer or a small needle nose plier to find and remove whatever caused a flat. In addition I'll take a couple of Excedrin and a couple of antiacids.

If you want to ENSURE you finish:
- 4-5 zip ties (good for holding almost anything for at least a short time - like going down and ripping your saddle bag straps off...)
- small tube Preparation H (you won't be laughing if you get the saddle sore from hell)

I use this Topeak Survival Wedge bag on each of my bikes.
In addition to the tool kit that comes with it, I also pack in it:
2 CO2 cartridges
2 spare tubes
2 $20 bills
A master link
A tire boot made out of a tyvek mailer
A Presta/Schraeder adapter
Small Swiss Army mini-champ knife (I've used the mini scissors and/or tweezers to remove stuff from a tire)
some zip ties
3-4 Purell handi-wipes
2 pairs of nitrile gloves for messy repairs
and this is the CO2 inflator/pump I use
Genuine Innovations Second Wind Carbon Mini
Is it more than I need? Probably, but this way I'm fairly self-sufficient...
