Thank you gentlemen for your kind words, the minute I saw the bike advertised it had my attention, everything on it was original even the tyres, all I had to do was pump them to the required pressure and bingo..
Checking the serial number ( WD7005675) on the bottom bracket learned me that this bike was built in 1977.

All good, gamgra -- but please do not trust those old tires!
They deteriorate with age and exposure to ozone, and can fail at the most inopportune moment.
Your beautiful bike deserves a set of good tires, and I would not be alone if I was to recommend a new set of Panaracer Paselas.

Auchen is right, and I meant to say that earlier. Besides, those tires are junk compared with modern tires. The Pasela is the best value in its price range. If you go higher, you might enjoy those even more.

Thank you for reminding me that using 30+ year old tires is just not done, I totally agree with this.
Also thanks for the tire replacement advise, although the Panaracer Pasela tires look great, incl the price, I doubt if they are available on this side of the Atlantic.

Forum member jeirvine helped me out with this one, facilitating the bike for me from Baltimore, it is a time capsule 1982 Super Course. It is in great shape and appears to have not been ridden in quite some time, a fact I intend to remedy. This is going to be my tourer, I have a nice Velo Orange front bag that will look right at home on this beauty, does anyone have a recommendation for a front rack that would suit this bike?

I also want to put some fenders on her, what do you guys think would match this colour? Chrome? White Bluemels?

Such a nice bike, and a very unusual transitional year. Looks like the reflective tape all came off ok, though you missed a piece on the crank.

Beautiful example jetSanchez! And if you stay with that clear Bennotto tape, I'd go with chrome on the fenders.

Here's mine, converted to 650A (not a typo). The front has a rather weathered Panaracer Col de la Vie tire on it, the back has a Bell Streetster replacement while I wait for my paycheck to get another CdlV (the one I was going to use had a thread or two on the sidewall that had let go...not planning on being stranded between work and home with that bad boy. Currently, it's running a Shimano Tourney RD (soon to be a S.T. FD too), stock Suntour shifters, Carlton labeled brake levers and stem, original bars, no-name BMX sidepull out back, and a Weinmann 710 up front (didn't have two, and 610's aren't long enough for the front...by like 2 mm). Also, a 28X38X48 all-Biopace triple. I fricking love biopace. Future mods are to grind out a 610 to fit the front, then move the 710 to the back. Also, metal fenders and another CdlV tire to round it out.

BTW, the Panaracers are as fast as anything else I've rolled on - you don't give up much for the width, and you can really hammer over rough concrete roads. The Bell in the back is the Cruiser's Cruiser tire - the goofy thing isn't very heavy (610g when measured on the kitchen scale), but feels like lead after you've been riding for a while. While I stand by the fact that they're good on a cruiser, on a drop-bar, "Rando" style bike? Not so much.

I love the frame, and wish I could find another one in this size. It would become my fixed gear ride. Maybe an earlier one without the derailer hanger...

Nice find Jet! That bike is gorgeous! The only things I would do is get some Dia-Compe gum colored brake hoods, and remove the chainguard from the crank. After that, it's ready to roll,,,,BD

And fenders, a matter of choice whether to install them or not. I'd do Smooth finish Honjos, or silver SKS. White Bluemels would stand out to much, and chrome says steel = heavy.

jet sanchez, you're in Canada, right? That's not an American model, which shouldn't be surprising. By 1982, Huffy owned the rights to the Raleigh name in the US and sold under the name Raleigh USA. What is the drivetrain made of? I don't recognize it. The frame looks like the same as the 1979/1980 model we had here in the US. It was decidedly racier than the previous model.

mickey85, what year is yours? And what made you decide to change the wheel size? How has it affected the ride? I like the way you equipped it.

mevsauce, welcome and congratulations. Good work on the bike so far. The B17 is a great choice and was probably the original saddle on your bike, as it was the model they used in later years. The front derailleur might fail on you. You may want to replace it pre-emptively. I also recommend new tires. As you noticed, there's a lot of enthusiasm for this model. As nlerner says, yours is from before 1971. I have a 1971 and love it. Yours is probably from 1967 through 1970.

I've been enjoying all the pics in this thread, so I figured as long as I had something to contribute, I would. This bike was rebuilt as a fixed gear and has been in my dad's collection for years. As I've been riding a lot lately, he offered to set it back up as a road bike for me. I think the Dia Compe brakes and levers are original but just about everything else has been changed out. Several years ago, he replaced The Super Record crankset and pedals and the Nuovo Record front and rear derailleurs on his Medici with newer Campagnolo components so was able to put the old stuff to good use on the Raleigh. It's pretty cool to be riding on the same stuff that he was riding when I was a kid. He shipped it to me from Seattle about two weeks ago and I've been riding it daily and loving it!
