Leaked Photo of 2020 Trek Domane?

Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Leaked Photo of 2020 Trek Domane?

I saw this photo in a Trek fan Facebook group, and grabbed a screenshot. According to another poster in the Cyclocross and Gravel sub forum, it launches this Friday and might have clearance for 38mm tires. I can’t confirm anything about it, or even that it is a Domane at all. BUT...

-It’s not a Madone or Emonda.
-The color scheme matches already-launched 2020 Domane+ ebike.

Certainly looks like a new Domane. Front Iso looks similar but I don't know what's going on with the rear - doesn't look like the L-shaped implementation on Madone... or, if it is, I can't see any adjustment hardware on the bottom of the TT. No longer has a seat mast cap, either, and I don't see a fastener for the height adjustment. I like the cleaner cable routing, too.

Whatever it is, it will soon be C&Vd due to the lack of a 1x.

What's with the painted seatpost/mast thing?

The paint on the post should wear off nicely and look like crap, no?

How does the seatpost get clamped?

I'm blissfully ignorant of all things Trek and Bontrager so forgive me if this is common knowledge.

All good questions. Previous versions of their carbon “seat post mast” featured a sleeve that went over the mast protruding from the frame. This looks more like a traditional seat post that fits inside the frame, but yeah... Painted???

I guess time will tell.

It's a departure from the previous generation Domane, so it's hard to say for sure, but looking at pics of the current Madone may provide some clues -

The looks don't really do it for me.

But then my bike isn't a great looker, either. How it rides is a lot more important.

Im not a fan of this gloss/matte combo look, but hopefully the lower models will come in a solid gloss.

I do think the shape of the frame is elegant.

Interesting color choice. Without seeing a name, I'd think it was a KTM.

That's her. And it will come with 32mm tires but have enough clearance for 38mm with 5mm to spare.

I was at the Trek store when their Domane came in. It doesn’t have adjustable suspension. It does have a threaded BB. It will except 32 tires with fenders. The one I saw had Sram on it.

Was just at a Trek factory store this weekend. The announcement will drop on July 25. It looks like they might be matching what the 2020 SuperSix Evo HiMod did, in taking that previous model and introducing more "aero" into it, without it being fully aero like the Madone. Straddling that line between an endurance and aero bike. I always wondered why you had to have all one or all the other. Will look forward to trying this out. At my LBS last weekend the Cannondale rep stopped by and I got to ride the new 2020 S6EvoHiMod with Dura Ace mechanical build. It was niiiiiice. But at $7200 it's more than double what I paid for my 2018 S6EvoDi2 on 4th of July sale. That's a lot of coin.

I'd like that, especially if it uses geometry similar to the current models.

The black/orange are my high school colors. I like that.

It's also probably really expensive. I like that as it means I won't have any incentive to buy it!

Why would anyone want 38mm tyres on a performance/endurance road bike?

The type of all-road bike is growing in popularity. Have you really not noticed this until now? BTW, the previous gen Domane clears 35s, so this is no big change.

To ride on dirt. Looking at the bike, you should be able to throw 25s on a second wheelset and keep up with a group ride. I've set PRs on 28mm tires on routes I rode many times on 23s when I was younger.
