just wanted to see if anyone knows where to find some nice classic looking gloves whether they are meant for bicycling or not. Ideally i would like something snug fitting in leather, in a honey color of course, with a band adjustment around the wrist. I see a lot of random ones on amazon, but i'm not sure where to start.

Haven't seen a knit backed, fingerless, padded, leather riding glove (which is what most might consider as true C&V gloves) in a long time. I'm sure some company still makes them though as more of a C&V niche product...
Last ones I owned was from way back in the very early 80's before the wonder material Lycra eventually killed them from the market...

As a sailor I have learned that cycling gloves and sailing gloves are more or less the same.
the cycling gloves are a bit cheaper but you can search under
sailing gloves also.

You forgot to add the moon shaped tan on the back of the hands.....the mark of a cyclist back in the days.... Most gloves these days don't have that hole on their backs anymore....

I don't really care about fashion when I'm riding. I'm pretty comfortable with the modern mountain bike gloves my mom got me last year for Sinterklaas - our version of Santa Claus (here's an explanation by D. Sedaris https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NYdpte1W0vk ).

Planet Bike has a pair, the Taurus, and they are relatively inexpensive at $18 MSRP. I got a pair last summer. They don't really last for more than a season, but at that price I'm not worrying about longevity. And since it's Planet Bike, it means you can find them in a lot of places.

I really like the old crochet knit and leather gloves. I keep an eye out for them on the auction site and recently scored a very nice pair. I think they were old stock Cycle Pro, made of fine Cabretta leather. Kinda spendy but very nice. But I like the ones from the LBS just fine too. Those driving gloves on Amazon are nice, for driving your Austin Healy, but too thin for bike gloves, IMO.

thanks for all the responses. I am looking more for full fingered leather gloves that fit snug. not for serious cold weather or anything like that.

Rootboy- Ya i figured those gloves i linked to wouldnt be the most suitable for biking, but that is more or less the style of glove i am looking for.

sorry but yes i do care a bit about style , but believe it or not its for my own enjoyment.

Style is good. I'm with you there. Those driving gloves are just very thin, although I suppose they'd be good for a while. No padding either but that might not bother you.

Ya no padding doesnt bother me too much. but I definitely agree, those glove's would probably not hold up very well, and at 55+ dollars its not worth it.

they actually have a couple styles that look nice, I like that they have that honey leather color option on a lot of their gloves.

I would caution you. I recently obtained two pairs of them (one through a local shop and one through Amazon) and both ripped the seam that goes down the inside of the thumb within a couple of rides. I tried to contact Spenco via the "contact us" form on their website. No response. I won't be buying any more Spenco products and have given feedback to the local shop I obtained them through.

Maybe they had a bad batch and have corrected the problem. If anyone buys them and has a better experience, please let me know.

I just got a pair from Niagra, wore them on my ride today and like them. I hope they are not part of a "bad batch" but I will let you know how they hold up. The Spenco site sells them for $13 and free shipping , I paid $22 for mine. Wonder if Spenco is selling wholesale through their site or???? All the gloves on their site show prices of half or less than msrp.

Son of a gun. I just looked at mine, which have only been ridden a few times and they are ripped in that exact spot. Oh well, the gel padding seems totally different to what my old ones I had, almost too thick and I wasn't crazy about them anyway.

back in my day, before a particularly lengthy jaunt the local wheelmen would strap a day old carp to their palms with a cubit of catgut. the real speed demons would substitute a haddock soaked in vinegar. it did much to comfort the hands from the rigors of the road, and served as a tasty snack when they arrived at their destination.
