Does sterile alcohol work as a break cleaner?

I have a bike at home that can't stop squeaking. The only alcohol that I have is sterile alcohol. Does this work?

Rim or disc? It actually might make it "too clean," if there's such a thing. Then it will squeak louder!
I would use super-fine sandpaper, like 1000 grit, or emery paper, on both the pads and brake surfaces.

The bike's rim breaks not disc.
