Roadside Swag-What Did You Score
I do not know about you but I take something home like every single ride!
"Free Stuff" boxes out inthe country where the rich folks live can be very lucrative. Nice clothes, score some cedar shoe trees or keeping the riding shoes dry and stink free, , CD's, hose set or the washer (the good ones with the steel wrap)
Sometimes it is a challenge if the item is big (microwave oven) and you are a long ways from home (12 miles)
Today it was a Vegan cookbook for crock pots and some pot holders.
I will take home old clothing and sheets and cut them up for shop rags, good for working on cleaning the bike.
Found 4 dollars cash inside an old jacket last week.
I see the same guy doing the same thing all the time, he has metal baskets on his bike to haul the booty.
What did your score?
Here is my new crockpot (you can cook rice in those things) and my shoe trees for wicking moisture out and leaving a nice cedar scent>

There is a bridge on my way home from work where the bridge deck is stepped up a couple of inches from the road bed. It is also the first bump in the road for traffic leaving town from either of the two service stations. If a mechanic has left a tool somewhere under the hood or on the under-carriage of a vehicle, this is where it will get bounced off. I frequently find wrenches, sockets screwdrivers etc.

I once headed out for a 40+ mile interval workout ride, and found a 14" crescent wrench - a nice one, forged steel. I really had to think about whether I wanted the extra weight in my jersey pocket...But I couldn't pass it up.

In 2016 I was touring in Montana and found a thin hoodie on the side of the road. Came in handy on cool evenings because I was a bit underpacked. Only downside is that it smelled of cheesy body was, like Axe or whatever it’s called.

I have yet to see anything worth stopping for but mostly I am on rural roads with few houses and very little traffic.

About the only thing worthwhile I've found is a set of screwdriver bits laying in the middle of the street. But I keep my eyes open. I haven't really played "let's find stuff on the side of the road" since I was a kid.

I found a new pair of Oakley sunglasses about 6 or 7 years ago. Also found a few pairs of pliers over the years, an adjustable wrench, a PVC tube cutter, a cheapie multi-tool, a hammer, a cool valve cap with a British flag logo on it and of course various fasteners. This is over the course of about 50 years of riding though. The sunglasses I actually watched the classifieds for hope that the rightful owner listed them as missing. after a month I claimed them as mine.
If you lost a pair of Oakley sunglasses in Scottsdale Arizona 6 or 7 years ago and can accurately describe them and approximately where you think you lost them, I'll send them to you.

At mile 88 of a 100 mile ride I found a 250pound capacity fold-up STEEL hand truck similar to https://www.digitalbuyer.com/vergo-p...SABEgJTTfD_BwE about 2.5 miles from home. Picked it up, positioned it on top of the aero bars and finished the 100 miles instead of heading directly home.

Very ugly with dark lenses, and I dropped them next to a cactus.

While riding this morning, I saw an old training potty with a "free" sign on it.
I did not stop to investigate.

passed by some granny panties the other day. How does someone "lose" those on a mostly desolate road is interesting...

I would not call this one a score, but as the title states, swag, green, leafy swag. I saw a pair of sunglasses today, on a bridge and not a good place to stop so I do not know what brand/quality. Also, I use progressive lenses and got a new pair 2 weeks ago. If I go that way tomorrow and they are still there, if they are decent I will post them here.

I never find anything of much value. A few tools I kept.
And then there were the kittens. My wife spotted them riding at night. I was further out in the road and never would have seen those gleaming eyes. In an isolated area, someone had obviously abandoned them fairly recently. We had too many of our own at the time, but we had to pick them up. They wouldn't have lasted long there before something would have eaten them. Ended up making a generous donation to the rescue group that accepted them.
But what always puzzles me is how much clothing there is. I ride on largely rural roads and see all manner of clothing discarded. How and why I cannot imagine. Who throws random articles of clothing out the car window?

I've found the following in the roadway:
- Numerous sockets, snap-on ratchet handle, generic ratchet , pliers, and wrenches. I only pick up the metric tools.
- Hunting knife
- Folding knife
- Utility knife
- Checkbook which was returned to owner
- Pair of decent sunglasses
- Wallet containing $40 returned to owner.
- Wallet containing $20 Euros while riding through Spain. It was in the "secret compartment. The rest of the wallet was bare. It is a nice wallet.
- About 20 boxes of toilet paper that must have been from a truck accident. I did not take any
- Zipp carbon front wheel. I couldn't find owner.
- About $5 in change scattered in a small area on the road shoulder.
- $20 bill.

Several bungee cords, 2 pairs of vice grips and many small hand tools, a run over Barbie head which now hangs from my wife’s saddle as her mojo, a $100 bill, and a baby’s arm holding an apple. Ok, I lied, it was 1 vice grip.

Also if you could get me a different hat, the one I am currently wearing tugs my hair in one place oddly (because of some folded material). Still a nice Snap-On hat though and I think I can fix it, it is a brand new hat.

I really did find $73 dollars one morning. Maybe it found me. Riding a small road I saw what I thought was trash being blown toward me. As I got closer, I saw the greenish hue and thought, "that almost looks like dollar bills". I stopped and got off the bike to pick it up, 3 twenties, 1 ten and 3 singles, folded up but still together. Nobody around, chuckled, put it in my jersey pocket and rode on.

Oh, you poor naive thing... let me explain. When a man and a woman love each other very much, they share a special kind of hug...
