And so it ends. The boy starts school tomorrow. Time to set the alarm clocks for 5:45am every week day, so that we can shuffle out of bed, down some coffee, drag the kid out of bed and trudge him to the bus stop before 7am. *sigh*

I grew up in Warren Township, a couple towns over from Gillette. It was a fine place to grow up, although when I go visit there now it seems too crowded and overdeveloped.

I thought that was you who grew up there. There are now lawn signs protesting further development. First time I ever saw them along the route.

Crazy, isn't it? Skiing until June, and getting skis in Sept at 100 degrees.
TT was brutal. Legs weren't ready, but it was totally weird. I was 2 watts less than 3 years ago, each power zone was nearly identical in percent, and I was a minute slower. Weird, but it is what it is. Not my favorite discipline. The Road race started at 45 degrees, and humid. Glad I turfed all my arm warmers and stuff, because I didn't miss them by the first hill. I need about 20 more watts to compete with the hill specialists, and Cat 1's. 11th in GC, but the crit is filled with non crit racers, and we're also racing with the 50+123 bunch. It'll be fun.

Officially determined the bus time to be 7:37 am today, although its supposed to arrive at 7:43 am. Lots of bus chasing this first three weeks.

We had the field split, which doesn't mean a good result, but sure does improve the chances. After a lap they let off, I tried to up the pace, but all that happened was wheel sucking. I think people were content in surviving, plus about 8 Sklar racers were involved, so the team tactics were certainly in play. 10th, and 10th. One more race down at the Air Force Academy, then next season starts.
I got to wait in traffic. Unbelievable, because the traffic jam started north of Silverthorn, and carried through to Idaho Springs. I got home, watched the news, and they showed the traffic I was in, then showed the traffic at the time I got home. Next time, I'm not leaving until 4.
That's crap. The bus should at least hang out until the correct time. Adventure isn't needed first thing in the am.

2.5 weeks in to fatherhood and back at work today for the first time, the "vacation" is over .
The baby girl is healthy and happy and shockingly cute, given my normal aversion to newborns. Amazing how quickly you get over the "icky" factor of spilling breast milk, changing diapers, cleaning spitup, etc etc. All feels 2nd nature now. We also had an offer accepted on a house within 4 days of giving birth, so lots of adult things happening at once. Should close in October if everything goes according to plan.
I treated myself to a smart trainer, because I knew I wouldn't be getting 2+ hours outside to myself for the foreseeable future. It's a Cycleops Magnus, seems pretty good so far other than tire slipping while at low cadence/high torque climbing out of the saddle, may need to mess with the Zwift settings. Also interesting to finally see "real" power after calibrating it. It is much quieter than what I was using before, so I can put the baby in the little mamaroo thing while she sleeps, have it in front of me while I'm on the trainer, and spin away for an hour in the mornings while the wife sleeps a bit more. Pretty good setup so far.

I feel bad for our resident ladies bad ass cat 3. She raced Pro 123, and destroyed all of them, but one. I don't know how she would have done in something like the Colorado Classic, but she wrecked some Sho Air and some Butcher Block pro riders day, that's for sure. She finished second to a racer that I thought was on the old Psimet/Zilla team, but his name was Vince, and I don't think it's the fellow I was thinking of.
I wish I had a solution.

Nearing the end to what sounds like a solid season, LAJ. Congrats and congrats on your baby, Dan. You'll be free to do what you want again in 18 years.

Wow. That is early. My seasonal neighbors from AZ have a similarly early start. Ours got pushed a week later this year, back to what it was when I was a kid.

Those old classic bikes do nothing for me. In the day of 10 speeds and BMX, I was firmly in BMX/freestyle.

I think that the newborn tar poop is mother nature's way of telling you that there will be no dipping of the toes - straight into the deep end.

There is another giant, dead cock-a-roach in one of the urinals. It's always the left one.
And the evening cleaning guy left the conference room TV on again. This time all long weekend long.

That photo was taken after the Redline went to the bike shop. I picked it up and then the owner closed the shop. Not much business for a brick and mortar BMX shop in Lafayette. Sad.
It'll be interesting to see the landscape in five years. Most of the bike shops will be gone, unless they move more and more towards ebikes. As that technology gets better and cheaper, everyone will want assist. No one will want to actually ride a bike except for us old farts.

If I would have ever had kids, I would have made sure I lived next to a coin operated car wash. Those floor mat clips would have been utilized to their fullest extent, and that wee nipper would have been clean in a heartbeat.

Good news is that, to my surprise, it really doesn't smell (yet). I'm sure that will change when she switches to formula and/or solids.

Oh, and things @LAJ will appreciate... IndyCar announced they're returning to Richmond in 2020! I just sold my tickets to the Canadian GP to some bike friends who've always wanted to go, so now I can see fast racecars in my back yard next June without flying to Canada.

Harsh, but real.

I believe that's correct. Newborn breastfed poop is messy but does not stink. Reminds me of Golden's Spicy Brown Mustard in color and consistency.
