I'm in Oklahoma City for business and after nearly two weeks here I have to wonder if there is any mountain biking at all here. I'm from Arkansas originally and we've got plenty of hills and forests where I grew up but I've been living in Washington for the last 15 years and I had forgotten how flat this part of the country can be. I saw a guy with a bike on his rack the other day so I suppose people ride somewhere but I can't imagine it's very challenging. I suppose that I'm spoiled.

If you're from here, where do you ride? Do you have to travel to find good trails or terrain? I could see road bikers eating this stuff up but if all I rode was MTB I would end up with a gun in my mouth pretty quickly.

I would imagine that since you are in a City, there isn't much Mountain Biking.

Same could be said for 99% of cities. But I would think that most have great trails within an hours drive.

Our city has miles upon miles of trails, two NORBA downhill courses and part of a 10,000-acre State Park all within the city limits.

Spokane (although some cynics might not call that a city ).

Riding areas include a 195+-acre city park - - commonly known as Beacon Hill - - which is now being managed and further developed by our local IMBA club with the blessings of the City of Spokane. It includes an extensive trail network that also criss-crosses several adjacent large private properties (with the approval of the property owners), a newly-built stunt/skills park, dirt jump area and the two downhill courses.

Every quadrant within the city limits has trail networks that can be accessed (some literally within blocks) from the downtown core.

www.okearthbike.com. they have difficulty ratings, locations and overall descriptions on 13 of what seems to be the most popular places in Oklahoma to ride (many of which are relatively close to the city, as C Law assumed). I'm brand new to this, and live in one of the towns of the places on there (McMurtry) and i think it's cool, but then again im a rookie. web site seems pretty accurate. just ask around, man. hell, you think we're flat, try kansas (that's who we make fun of). after all, we do have the worlds largest hill (like a foot short of being a mountain), so that gives us some street cred, right???

[facetious]Yep, I'm a dick and most of my friends would concur, but I figure that admitting you have a problem is the first step in dealing with it. My wife seems to be cool with it so I'm going to let it ride. Besides, as dicks go I'm pretty mellow.[/facetious] Didn't mean to offend; probably a little overdramatic with the title.

Anyway, I'm not baggin on the city or the folks that live here. There's a cool scene downtown when it gets dark, everyone's friendly as hell and I haven't had a bad steak yet. I'm checking out the OEF site that was mentioned earlier and it looks like Lake Thunderbird could be pretty promising for this weekend. I thought that I heard it was going to be cold here this weekend but just checked the forecast and it looks like 40's. Too bad it couldn't be like today's weather. Anyway, that would be great because I haven't turned a pedal in anger in 3 weeks and I'm starting to feel like a slug.

One of our "local" trails is very flat (We'll take where ever we can build trails). Having said that, its still quite fun. There is a nice mix of fast flowy turns and log overs as well as some ramps. Next time I'm out there I'll film it with the Go Pro and post it up.

You've got that right. I grew up and went to college in WA, now I live in NC. The raleigh area has some nice riding, but its still nothing compared to back home. I miss it!

You should definitely run(or pedal) as fast as you can away from any place that mandates the beer must be watered down

I hear you on the 3.2 beer! But I digress...I was coming on here to tell of the fun that I had Saturday at the lake. I found some MTB and had a good time. A bit dry (I like a little mud) but very fun none the less. What do I get for my largess? A freaking ice storm! God must be from Oklahoma. I'm sorry man, I'm sorry!
