Broken 10 speed DA, now what?
had a malfunctioning DA 7900 10 speed right shifter for quite some time now2, would float between 2 of the gears like 5th and 6 cog down. New housing, new cable, new RD, no joy. Finally took the shifter apart last night and had what looked like pieces of metal washer fall out. No idea what it was since Shimano doesn't offer exploded diagrams of this part. Shifters are pretty old were used a lot, one of the 2 gear tracks , the one for up-shifting was worn down pretty bad compared to it's brother for down shifting, which would make sense as the load is much higher going up.
Tried ot re-assemble anyway after cleaning, which was a nightmare. After an hour hucked it all in the trash. This is off a 2013 full Carbon bike, but the shifters were probably 2010-11. I want get it back on the road and either ride iot or sell it. What should i buy, I've lost track of all the lates-doo-dads. Don't want to spend a fortune, the DA pair set me back $450.
I don't want Shimano back in there, since SRAM will require yet another new RD, but will if it's cheaper . Doesn't look cheaper, Shimano R8000 will set me back $500. with cassette.
Sram Rival new take-off for $200.-$300. with shifters , cassette, RD, and chain?
I don't care about weight, i want good function and durability. please let me know your experiences with any of this stuff (that you have used please)

My DA 7900 right shifter crapped out, probably owing to sweat damage from the trainer. I replaced it with a 105 5700 10 speed shifter. I do notice the difference - the 105 sort of chafes at my fingers in a way the DA didn't, but it functions fine. They are available new for about $100

Depends on how worn everything else is, and budget. If everything else good and budget low, agree get used or NOS D-A, Ultegra, or 105 10s shifter. Use EBay or ask a friend if they have one.
If you want a whole new groupset, the latest 105 or Ultegra are quite well reviewed. You may need to verify rear wheel easy to fit 11s.

After recently giving up on trying to fix a faulty left-side 7900 lever, I was able to find a replacement on eBay in very good condition for about $200. It's just kind of hit or miss is anyone is selling single levers.

I really don't want o gamble with used shifters, especially 7800, lots of guys had problems with those in my club and switched to Sram.
As for putting 10 speed 105 there, If i sell the bike, it would be really hard and price would suffer with mismatched parts.
No love for Sram ? This Rival group looks obviously new, taken off a production bike.200 bucks
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Sram-Rival-...t/264661768401
or this? shimano R7000 $330.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Shimano-105...Dd46f3szYpuxcw
should be 11 compatible, rear wheel is only maybe a year or 2 old, built it with help from you guys

This frame i only rode seriously for 2 years, rode somewhat for 2, and little or not at all last 3. Wound up damaging my feet from ill-fitting shoes and upper-lower back from sliding a slammed position
So plan is now, flip the stem over, sit-up, ride easy if possible. If not possible sell. Bicyle blue-book showing a value of $750. in good condition, so even if i fix and sell, I'll still be $400. ahead. Hoping to ride again though
If anyone has impression , likes/dislikes 105-7000 please share. I would expect it to be on par with 7900 right ?- (function, not weight)

R7000 is 11 speed. In order to use it with your bike you need an 11 speed freehub body on your wheels.
Current Tiagra is available in 10 speed but I think the cable pull wants to work with the matching Tiagra rear derailleur.

Unless the wheel is really old, the freehub is probably already 11 speed compatible with a spacer to adapt it to 11 speed. If not, add the associated cost of a new rear hub and/or wheel.

I have bikes with 11 sp 105, 10 sp DA (12 yrs. old) , Ultegra 10 sp. and SRAM Red 10 sp (4 yrs. old). The 105 11sp is the best shifting. The rest are all very good but I had no problem with buying my new CAAD12 w/105. IMO the biggest difference between new 105 and DA is weight not function. And, cost of course.
My current hub, built April 2018

I'd look for a mini-groupset that includes shifters, derailleurs, 11spd cassette, and chain. If you aren't in a huge hurry Aliexpress usually has them available for a good price.

If you want to lay as little money as possible. If you can get 105 replace it with 105, it's cheap and works well. The last few friends of mine who had Dura Ace and Ultegra 10 speed stuff, were replaced with Tiagra because 105 and up are now 11 speed.
Good Luck

New 7000 series shifters alone won't work with your 7900 derailleurs, but your brakes, crankset. and wheelset will..
I'd look for a mini-groupset that includes shifters, derailleurs, 11spd cassette, and chain. If you aren't in a huge hurry Aliexpress usually has them available for a good price.

Exactly! You can rebuild this shifter mechanism with Campy. But honestly, if the OP simply wants to fix his bike and get back out there, buying an entirely new groupset does not make $ sense. Find a used or NOS right Shimano 10 speed STI lever. Given that this is the dominant brand, this should not be impossible to do.
