I decided to tackle the legendarily difficult installation of SKS Longboard P50 fenders.

In the future, I think I'd pay a shop to do this, just to save the hassle. It took quite a few hours of installing, measuring, removing, reinstalling, and adjusting, but...I think it turned out pretty nice! I had to get rubber-coated P-clamps for the front fork as I didn't have eyelets (which cost me a lot of extra time and aggravation), but at least it was a relatively simple fix.

Not what I did today, but what I changed this season:
1. Upgraded the fork - RockShox Paragon Gold 63mm travel
2. Upgraded the brakes - Shimano SLX M675 hydraulic disk brakes
3. Changed the stock suspension seat post to a carbon seat post
4. Changed the stock 620mm handlebars to 660mm handlebars
5. Had to replace the stem: stock adjustable 100mm (⌀25.4mm) to a rigid 90mm (⌀31.8mm) stem

Next up - replacing the drivetrain, because the chain is worn far beyond the 1%.

Disassembled, cleaned, lubed and reassembled the left PD-M530 pedal that had developed an unpleasant bearing play during my last ride. Excellent instructions can be found here: It's almost 1 am. So will test ride it tomorrow.

Operation successful! Did a 50 km on-road/off-road ride this morning and it performed flawlessly.

It's great! The default Suntour NEX just feels like a rigid fork when compared to the Paragon Gold
+The Paragon is about 1kg lighter that the Suntour NEX

The build consists of XT brakes, a 1x10 XT drivetrain with FSA team Issue carbon fiber crank sporting a Race Face narrow wide chaingring, and Mavic CrossMax SLR wheels with Schwalbe Kojak tires. The saddle is a Specialized Romin Evo gel, and the bars and stem are Ritchey WCS UD carbon.

Last weekend, chasing my son around on the Pine Creek Trail, I ended up breaking spokes and really disfiguring my rear wheel to the point that my LBS could not fully true it. They told me for a better rear wheel for my Crosstrail Sport was going to cost me around $150.

I shopped around and found a wheel at Performance Bikes. Weinman XM280 with Wheel Master Hubs. I'm not familiar with these hubs so please let me know if there are problems! The store manager at first offered to sell the rear wheel to me for $40. I was like REALLY?!?! I then told her, that I'll take the fronts also, so she went on and said that she will sell them to me for $35 each if I take them both. WOW!

So I was being rung up at the register and found out that I had nearly $50 worth of Performance Bike points. I ended up paying only $25 with tax on two new 36 spoke stronger wheels. WOW!!!!!!!

They look so much better than the originals! It also gave me the chance to take off the plastic deflector on the rear wheel, put on a new Nimbus front tire and really cleaned the bike up.

It's been nearly a year since I've ridden, but I've been back on the bike three times this week - nearly 100km so far - because I'm getting fat from being so sedentary (I work from home now). I found that I was getting some major hand numbness so today I raised the handlebars on my bike a few centimetres and it made a huge difference - no hand numbness today.

Replaced the drivetrain today, since my rear derailleur broke last saturday.
Was a 3x8 setup:
Shimano M131 28-38-48 crankset, square taper BB, Shimano M191 front mech, Shimano Alivio 8spd rear mech, Shimano CS-HG31 11-32 cassette
Now a 2x10 setup:
Shimano Deore M615 28-40 crankset, Hollowtech II SM-BB51, Shimano XT M785 front mech, Shimano SLX Shadow+ M675 rear mech, Shimano XT M771 11-36 cassette and Shimano SLX M670 i-spec shifters.

I haven't ridden in a week because of the heat! Just added a few things and wanted to share some pics because im bored:

- Finally added a top tube bag big enough to hold my wallet, iphone 6s and small allen key tool. this is the topeak tri bag in large.
- My wife's bike had a bontrager carbon seat post but she hasn't ridden in a while so I put it on my bike

now the weather just has to cool off before I can take it for a spin in the evenings. i feel like this is the perfect workout bike. not light like a road bike but not heavy like a big box store bike. perfect for a daily workout of 8-12 miles per ride. very happy with it.

Nice. I try to fit everything in my saddlebag, but have considered a top tube bag before. I did notice that your grips could use some adjusting. You could rotate the grips forward where your palms are on the palm swells in such a way that your wrists aren't bent. Try it and see how it feels.

will do, thanks for mentioning it, i honestly didnt even notice that they probably just rotated around after my last ride. i'll adjust & tighten them back up.

Today I put on a Topeak handlebar bag in large and I got the Topeak Aero Wedge saddle bag in large and I put on the Topeak Bar Extender as I have no room for my lights on my handlebars because of the bag size. I wish the extender was an 1/2 inch longer. I mounted the lights under the bag.
