Here is how the bike looks now with the 46/30T crank and 11-36T cassette on my "off-road" wheel-set. Works reasonably well with Di2.

Just got my bike back from the shop, so no time yet to try it out, but here's my FSA SL-K 46/30 Modular Adventure crank installed! And according to my postal scale, it saves about 235 grams, so a good half-pound weight loss (not all that important, but carbon fiber really is light!).

Cool! But what does "Works reasonably well with Di2." really mean? What makes it not perfect.

The shifting is smoother with all Ultegra parts, and I suspect cranking down the B-screw makes rear shifts a wee bit clunkier with the 11-36T cassette. But it is still better than conventional (non-electronic) shifting.

Does anyone know any sources for 110BCD asymmetric 4 hole 30T chainrings (for Ultegra 6800/105 5800 cranks)?
I was thinking 110BCD 5 hole limitation is gone with new design so new small rings should be technically possible.

I just stupidly went the wrong way with my inner chainring, got a deal on a CX 70, 46/36. Didn't think that extra 2 teeth would matter in the middle of the season, but I was wrong. I have been having cramping problems, and that just made it worse. Going to get a 11-36 cassette on the bike soon to compensate.

You should be able to easily replace the 36 with a 34. The CX70 is nice stuff. I got one of the 46 outer rings to replace the 50 on an Ultegra 10 speed and like it well enough I'll do the same with another bike.

it's a really nice crank, that is for sure. And the inner rings are relatively cheap. I really like having the 46. The thing I have to get used to is when I start bogging down, dropping to the inner chainring doesn't help that much. Usually still bogged down. 50 to 34 is a big drop

I think you'll like it if you find a 34. I've been riding the 46-34 for a week or so and the 46 is much more useful for me than the 50. Shifting between the two is fine. I was surprised how much I could lower the front derailleur.

I just ordered a 34 from the LBS. Costs about $15. I really liked the 46, 50 is much less useful. I rode with the crank on an 80 mile ride, it was great.

Having ridden my 46/30 a few times, I'm liking it more than the 48/32 without even having taken it on a good hillclimb. Mainly I find that when I'm in flat cruising mode at 15-17mph on the big ring, I'm down in the smaller cogs that are spaced two teeth apart, so easier to match cadence to speed, etc. My experience is that if the rear cogs are in the range where there is a three-tooth difference, I end up constantly shifting up and down trying to find my ideal ratio for the conditions. This especially comes up when riding in a group where I have to match others' speed.

Sale at Universal Cycles

For anyone who's interested, Universal Cycles has the FSA SL-K 46/30 cranks in stock and they're having a 15% off sale for orders over $300 (use the code "1907LPetitBreton15"), plus shipping is free. That drops the crank price to $322.15. I just ordered 2 of them, plus 2 bottom brackets.

I gave up waiting for FSA to ship their reasonably priced 46-30.
SRAM just came out with a long cage e-tap that handles 32 teeth. I ordered it
I also ordered a Praxis 48-32 crankset
That will give me a low end 1:1, the same as my triple. I'm having it all installed this week.

I STILL want that FSA sub-$200 46-30 for my commuter/light-touring bike. I wonder why they aren't shipping it.

You mean the square-taper FSA 46-30? They've been on EBay for a while....probably in store too.

No, at least I don't think so. The Mega Exo type Omega 46/30 isn't square taper (I don't think....)

These seem to be on the latest Spec Diverge bikes. They are 48-32T and are under $200. Bit more for the hollowed out ones. What a couple of teeth between friends....

Sadly the praxis 48/32 rings only work with their crank. Does anyone make a 48/32 that will fit my power2 Max 110 bcd crank (Rotor). I'd like to keep my power meter.

Nope. You're limited by the BCD.

Praxis pulls sneaky engineering to get 32T into their crankset. 110mm BCD caps at 34T, to get fewer teeth requires a smaller BCD.

I am having a Praxis 48-32 installed tomorrow. I really wanted a 46-30, but with the new 11-32 cassettes I think I'll be fine. I'll have the same low end that I had with the triple 52-39-30 and 12-30 cassette. Will report back.

Stillwanting that 46-30 for the commuter/light touring bike. Come on FSA...

I have ordered a set of 44-30 Sugino OX901D cranks for my Lynskey Cooper CX - HubJub in England have them for a less outrageous price as long as you are after 165mm, black, 44-30. I am tossing up whether to also install a Tanpan with a MTB derailleur or a Roadlink and keep my Ultegra 6800 derailleur. The plan is to use a 11-40 tooth cassette.

I am confused about the chainring tooth difference that works with an XT 8000 long cage derailleur - is it 10? I looked at the Shimano site and GS (short cage) is all I could find. The Jenson web site says that the long cage SGS is for a triple.

Does the MTB derailleur have any advantages over the Ultegra with a Roadlink?

I know this isn't a "for sale" forum, but before I put it on eBay, I'll mention that my FSA Gossamer Adventure 48/32 crank is available. It directly fits a BB386EVO, has about 400 riding miles of usage. This was the OEM crank on my Felt VR5.

Very interesting discussion. I recently bought a road bike with Ultegra 6800 and feel I could do with a lower gear or two. It's 50/34 with 11-32 on the back. I'm thinking of fitting an IRD Elite 12-36 which will give me one gear lower by 3.25 gear inches - 25.39. I'll need to adjust the B screw but won't need any other mods. To go lower I would need either a bigger cassette, 40 or 42T which I think would cause shifting problems, or a new crankset, such as the Sugino or Rotor. A 30T inner would give another 3 inches on a 36 cog, to 22.43, while a 28 inner would be 21.07. I'd also need to lower the FD which is a braze on.

Seems a lot of money for not a great improvement and quite a bit of fiddling about. I suppose I can always walk when I grind to a halt.

The difference between a 34/32 and a 30/32 is the difference between riding or walking. If on non-paved road or loaded touring walking may be even less fun.

Here is an inexpensive one. I got one from Velo Orange for my wife's gravel bike, and it was 200 dollars.
