Thank you, I actually need to take some more photos of it. Since I took that shot, the bike has acquired some Gilles Berthoud stainless steel fenders, a Nitto rear rack, and fatter gumwall tires.

Chav-tastic tt pad though. You might find that thing up on bricks in certain areas of South London (Sarf Lannndan).

No, the rack on the back is the R15 that Rivendell sells (though I bought it locally). But I'm considering getting the one you're talking about or a CETMA rack for the front. My ideal would be one of the Ahearne half or grocery racks. The LBS where I got most of the parts for that bike has an Ahearne in stock and it is absolutely gorgeous, but way, way out of my price range.

So I've posted elsewhere, but this is really the most relevant thread for this bike. It was also a source of inspiration for the build, so thanks all. Next I'll post pics of my bike carrying a bike setup, like the one in earlier pages here. Cheers

Here's my townie, built around an old raleigh frame someone left at my house, and various scavenged parts. I went freewheel w/brakes so I could have platforms, and therefore wear flip-flops on this bike. The only thing it still needs is a basket/flatbed rack in the front.

I'm loving these bikes. I have had an old Raleigh Medale sitting in my shed for about a year. Does anyone know anything about this model. It looks like a road bike to me, but I get the feeling it's a light tourer - all my randoneur aspirations are getting re-affirmed.

I want to convert it to a townie with moustache bars and a baggins bag on the back.

All these bikes are making me salivate.

Inspiring.

SWEEEEEEET bike. If you saved money by building up an inherited frame and scavenged parts, spring for a fancy flatbed rack. That's one thing I'd love to have on my bike. But, the $ ran out and $18 for a Wald basket is pretty nice.

Soo...not so classy as preceeding ones, but I love it.

I put Time Alium's on it soon after the photo, and now keep it almost exclusively SS. Perhaps I'll run it fixed when I encounter the Montreal winter this year.

Nice bikes, never saw this thread. Here's my townie in the making, my XO-3. No fenders or rack yet, but they're coming. I still need a taller stem. Not sure if a technomic will help just yet.
I may also flip the moustache and run it without the dummie levers. All the reasons for the change involve the bars being too low, so a stem swap will come first.,,,,BD

Well, someone left it at my house with the desire to have me build up a singlespeed/fixie around the frame. At some point I just convinced them it would be easier to sell them a bike I already had built, and so they left this frame with me.

What fenders are most of you using. Is it easy to find metal ones that fit a road bike?

My fenders are Gilles and Berthoud, you can get them from Peter White Cycles. Another classy option is Honjo fenders, I believe Velo-Orange has them, but a search will find you a few sources. Both come in 700c sizes, and are pretty nifty.

SKS Chromoplastics (p-45, I belive). My bike was originally built for 27' wheels, and I used 700c wheels for this build, thanks to the new tektro super-long-reach dual-pivot brakes. This gave me room for both 37c tires and fenders.
