Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Good stuff. N'Olins is an awesome place, a unique and distinctive slice of America. A little over a year ago I visited for a couple days for the first time. I could easily spend a couple weeks there just pigging out on the cuisine and visiting a different jazz club each night.

You would probably have a great conversation with @rpenmanparker, a frequent visitor to this thread, who was born & raised in N'Olins.

This is the 10th anniversary of the time Philly got over 44" of snow within a week. The first storm was 28". The second one was around 16". I remember walking around in them. A couple blocks from my house two city trash trucks fitted with plows collided at a four-way intersection. One of them slid into a parked car. Crazy times.

This winter we have gotten a whopping 0.7" of an inch.

But a short polar plunge is coming. The low overnight Friday is supposed to be 15. People are going to freak. By Sunday or Monday it's supposed to be back in the 40s.

MoAlpha has been there many times. Huge scientific and clinical societies love it because it has tens of thousands of hotel rooms and a guy-jantic convention center. I had a really good time there once, shortly after Katrina, when grad students at Tulane blew their annual speaker budget on me and really showed me the city.

I was trying to tie in your comment to roll my eyes at the fact that now that the rain is gone it's turning cold here.

Dangling emoji.

Ah. Well, I think that my bitter ******g cold is colder than your bitter ******g cold. Although, much to my boy's disappointment, they did not cancel school today - the cut-off is -35° wind chill, and it was only -29° with wind chill this morning.

Thanks for putting some heat back into the atmosphere before that air mass hits us.

We're at 15° right now. Cloudy, windy, and snowy.

Skies forecast to clear and drop to -6° by tomorrow morning.

It's these kind of days that make me realize how fortunate I am to have a garage to keep my truck in.

Hate that. Just hate that. At least we no longer have a driveway, just lots of steps and a parking pad with retaining walls on three sides and lots of steps.

I'd like to do the Cheohala Challenge century this year.

I've done it probably eight times, but not since 2016.

I don't know if it's going to happen or not.
