Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

It is, yes.

This style of suspended leather saddle is typically run with a higher angle than your traditional synthetic racing saddle. It creates a bit of a hammock effect, and I find that if it's tilted so that the top is level to the ground I slide forward a lot and get tons of pressure on my hands. It looks a bit strange, but I've spent a long time on it set up this way and have no numbness or pain issues.

The position on this bike is quite upright relative to most road bike fits, so that also encourages a more upward tilt.

I have one cut out on my workbench right now, and if you look closely the rear fender is drilled for a mudflap as well. I don't typically ride with anyone so the rear flap isn't really necessary.

I have to admit this is a build totally inspired by the West Coast rando scene. I love it though.

What did you do your series on?

Generally, food.

I understand if you don't agree that anyone would need to eat on a bicycle ride. I'm constantly snacking on really long rides.

Maybe? I don't know anything about Groundhog Day.

"The holiday was a festival of the hearth and home, and a celebration of the lengthening days and the early signs of spring. Celebrations often involved hearthfires, special foods, divination or watching for omens, candles or a bonfire if the weather permitted. Fire and purification were an important part of the festival. The lighting of candles and fires represented the return of warmth and the increasing power of the Sun over the coming months. A spring cleaning was also customary."

Understood. Sometimes you find yourself in a group, sometimes for survivals sake, other times, because it just happens.

My Rando bike.

I will admit to a big seat wedge so I could fit 3 tubes, and extra Co2 cartridges.

Not sure what’s riskier, the white bar tape or the fact the dog came close to knocking dream machine over.

Indy is a good girl, and knows what's right. The bar tape stays clean with Soft Scrub. It's been a bit since I've run that hot rod, but it was a darn good crit bike, and likely still is.

Nice! I'm just going to assume that you ride a little bit faster than me

I will always run a mudflap if there is any chance of rain and/or riding in a group. The last 200k I did had about 4 hours of rain. I was the only one who had fenders. Not a whole lot of fun trying to draft.

The last two weeks, the quads are pretty tight and sore to touch after rides (fake or otherwise), and actually achy/hurty during rides. Time to invest in a foam roller?

Ah. I had a couple of Brooks saddles (maybe others in the distant past, come to think about it), but had to sell them (for a surprising amount) when they were still uncomfortable after more than two years. I certainly never developed any “catenary” in the sling. My father had one on his Rudge Sports and believed one must not ride anything else.
