Miche primato headset adjustment

I was just researching how to adjust the headset on my older Cramerotti road bike. It seems like I need a couple 32mm thin wrenches and to be very careful taking the plastic ring off.

nobody mentioned this but I’m thinking about heating the black ring a little to soften it a bit before trying to pry it up.

any advice would be nice.

thanks in advance

I have the Primato headset on my ALAN Carbonio (Installed new about 4 to 5 years ago on the bike) and I always found it very easy to pop off the black plastic ring that covers the flats on the top race and top lock nut. In fact, I could pop it off by just using my fingernails under the bottom seam between the ring and the top race. It should be loose enough that you can even turn the plastic ring when it is on the headset. If it feels tighter on the headset than I described, dirt might have gotten between the ring and the headset. Once you get it off and cleans off any dirt under there. The ring should be easier to take off.
