+1 on the skidding coach. Just go to your LBS and ask about it. They generally have one on staff, they shouldn't charge more than $30 per hour session and it shouldn't take too many sessions to get the hang of it.

Yes. My LBS always has one on staff. Appointments are usually needed, but sometimes he will take walk ins.

Also, one of my co-workers does freelance coaching on the weekends. He is pretty amazing. His teachings are all based on angle theory. But depends on the coach. I firmly believe in angle theory as well, and would recommend to the OP if he does seek out a coach, the coach is at least familiar with angle theory.

Good luck.

formula hubs are gtg for this purpose and a cog and lockring won't set you back much more. i found this on a simple google shopping search "flip flop rear wheel". why did your front cost $120 does it have a dynohub or something? is it at least deore, tiagra, or better? seems like some misplaced fundage. dude if you want an inexpensive fixed gear go with this unless you don't own another bike. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Thruster-7...ndingMethod=rr coulda got a complete bike plus the expense of the cog and lockring for the same price or maybe just over what you spent for the front wheel.

+1 to skidding coach. If you were local, I'd be happy to assist. I'm not UCI certified, but I charge only half what an official coach would cost. Good value, IMO.

Don't make a joke about this, man. Skidding Coaches need to put food on the table too.

You should also be aware that some people just can't hack it. My skidding coach told me to forget about it and get two brakes. No skidding.

My old skidding coach told me to use a hexagonal rear wheel. It worked!

Ahhh..yes. He was basing that off angle theory for sure. The freelancer I know has mentioned hexagon wheels before. But he said it was more of a training type wheel and only used for the intro classes.

The only guy I know who teaches skidding would be pissed if he knew you guys were talking about it. It's supposed to be a little more DL than blabbing about it on a public forum.

This subforum sucks and this thread wraps up why.

i can do the skids (yes even on the 32/17) but i'm just working on developing consistency and form. and for now i just have to wait to give my legs a break. i've been using just brute force, as opposed to like trying to actually unweight the back tire. i don't have the time or money for a coach right now, and even if i did i dont think we have such a thing in this area actually. not sure.

The last thing we need around here is another skid coach. You can't swing a dead cat without hitting one and his pupil.

As for certification, it's an internship requiring a number of student skid marks. You work with a certified shop and you have to Have your students perform a certain number of skids under the indirect supervision of certified coach. Which, to the person Looking for a coach, is helpful bc the interns are usually cheaper while they are working on their certification. Sometimes free.

I only know all this because I just called the Freewheel. Barry's Bikes and Boards has a program too.
