how do 5'10 - 5'11 people fit a 57 58cm?
i read on here that most people get these two sizes when a 55 56 cm fits a whole lot better. all of my friends ride 55cm (same height)

6'3" here and a 58cm fits me as far as leg-length goes - I have a very small 33" inseam for my height. However I need a 60 or even 62cm to get the top-tube length I need... I have freakishly long upper-body and short legs.
Unfortunately I cannot afford a custom frame ... that's what I really need though.

54 tt bike a fixed gear.
and a 55

different frames are different to.
granted one was much better for skids

Compact geometry has changed the way frame sizes are measured and specified. Manufacturers differ, and the only way to know is to look at a geometry chart, or actually try the bike and have it fitted to you. The trend seems to be towards smaller frames and more upright riding positions. I test rode a bike recently, a size 58 (which they call XL!) and the kid at the shop said "that bike might be too big for you". I'm almost 6', and I generally ride a 58cm. We set the saddle height, and it fit just fine.

Don't mean to hijack the thread but I have a quick question. I'm 5' 10" with a 32" inseam,would a 55cm Kagero fit me well?
Because aesthetically, I don't really like the look of a 58cm. Could I do with a 55cm or is it much better to just get the 58?
I'm gonna try the calculator, but I just wanted to get some advice.

I guarantee the 58 will be too big.
My Kagero was a size large (55cm). A little too much saddle to bar drop for my liking but it fit me well.

I'm about the same size as you, and I think a 55cm would fit perfectly. I ride a 54cm most of the time (in road bikes) but I know that 56cm is a hair to big, so I opt for the bike being a hair to small, but thats just personal preference.

My Moto B is 58, the Col is 55-56. I'm 5'10" with a 32" inseam, long arms, long torso, size 13 feet. I can ride both easily though I believe the Col actually fits better, and the Moto B stand over height is tight though tolerable. Both have seat up and back. I constantly find myself backing up on the seat when I put power down (not sure why I do that and maybe one of you has an explanation). I ride toe down and that probably adds some effective leg length. I stood the bikes side by side and the frame geometry is similar but they aren't really. Someday I'll measure everything and measure my proportions then sit back and compare. Here is an interesting bit of info...the Col top tube is ~19 3/4" whereas the Moto B is ~21 1/2". I bought the Moto B in '73 as a novice and immediately swapped out the stem for a shorter TTT as I felt I had to reach to far, not realizing I wasn't bent over enough. The Moto B likely has a degree or so more rake, which accounts for a longer tob tube. My sis says "get fit"...and she's right. When riding the Col, I feel as if my weight is more forward, which seems to square with the intent of the designer. Long arms/torso and feet probably let me ride a slightly larger frame.
