JUst wondering what peoples daily commutes are around here and roughly how long they take.

mines just a hair under 8 miles one way and on a good day i do it in between 20 and 25 minutes. Days with headwinds or im hung over about 30. I dont know if thats bad or good :| any insite?

I used to do 10 miles in 35-40 minutes daily. Can't wait til I have a commute again. -__-

ha, when i move ill be living with my brother a month or two before i save for my own apt and my commutes will be 14 miles each way :| seems like its a big jump from shy under 8 to 14.... we will see.

My daily commute is roughly 5 miles in 25 minutes. However I find time not to be terribly important as long as I make it to work and class on time. Till either start handing out prizes for best distance to time ratio I'm fine with taking my time.

Before my job banned riding to work (I'm in the Coast Guard and we lost 5 members in 20 days due to bike wrecks on the main road. There was no room on the road and drivers don't give a **** about bikers), it was a 10 mile ride and I would take my time. Probably about 40 minutes through a scenic route, just too pretty to speed through.

Before last week, I had five miles through the city. I hauled ass on it once or twice and Strava said I did it in 18-19 minutes. Then I moved and got a new job. Now my commute is 14-15 miles, depending on which route I take, and it's all through rich suburbs and forest preserves. Takes about an hour.

10 miles each way in stop and go traffic, and I stop and wait at red lights. Takes maybe 45 minutes or so? I dunno, I've never timed it. I know it's about an hour door-to-desk, but that includes airing up my tires, lugging the bike out of the basement, and then locking up and getting to my desk once I arrive.

10 miles each way too. Even with the constant headwind and traffic I usually make it in 45-60 minutes. I have done it in 30 when I left home late

5-7 miles each way with about 250 ft elevation, ~20 mins

My current route is 6.5 miles there, 7 back. It takes about 25 min, depending on how cooperative the lights are.

@Bryan, your new commute sounds nice. I wouldn't be nearly as tempted to speed through that one.

41mi home, about 2 hours~2:15 depending on how I feel and how lucky I am with lights.

My "commute" is 0.6 mi and (according to Google) takes 2 minutes.

It's rough, man.

I've got three miles of traffic that takes about 10 minutes and then 3.3 miles of bike trail that I'm happy with myself if I do it in under 8 minutes, usually trying to get the first mile in under 2 and hang on for the rest. I keep getting slower though.

4 miles on the most direct route. Takes me about 20 minutes depending on the lights.

Door to door is 39.5-42mi (depending on the route). Fastest I have done it was 1:52. Normally it's around 2:15. 2:30 if I take Skyline (aka hills). I do this two or three times a week.

I would actually be really sad if this were the case for me. 80% of my bike time/exercise is my commute. I applied for a job that would halve my commute and that will be one thing I'm sad about if I get it.

There's no rule requiring the most direct route.

Depends on how many stops/signals and slope.

My place to downtown takes almost twice as long as downtown to work, even though they're roughly the same distance.

I'd much rather ride just for the hell of it before or after work than ride 10 miles to work lugging a laptop and bunch of other bull**** on my back.

Yeah, but my body apparently has a rule along the lines of "wake up at the latest possible moment that you're still able to get to work on time."

Agreed, but alas that only happens on weekends because Life Stuff. I'd miss out on 80 miles a week if I didn't have my commute. *shrug* It's all good, friends.

I have an 8.5 mile each way route that I do several times a week for a regular meeting. Takes about 30-35 minutes. But that's with a very large number of red lights, some of which are major intersections near freeway on-ramps that take over a minute to turn green sometimes. I tend to glide through stop signs after looking, but try to obey the lights. Sometimes wonder what my time would be if I wasn't so civic minded.

Still, it's faster than driving and parking, or taking BART. It's nice to zip past a block of backed-up traffic during rush rush hour...
