Van Tuyl

Just picked up this little guy/gal from a very nice seller in Guildford, England. Very excited to see it. Probably a bit of complicated touch up, but the paint job is very interesting. Anyone have any information on the Van Tuyl brand?

Cromor might have its naysayers but it is good tubing. No info to give you on this manufacture but I like the paint scheme. It should polish up well.

Hopefully it will replace the Faggin frustration with a more buildable rider bike...thanks!

What I know about Van Tuyl from the seller is that they are not built by Van Tuyl. Apparently a seller/repainter of other people's frames, including Andrea Pesenti?

Here's mine. With Columbus dropouts and a Cinelli BB shell, this could be a contract build by Andrea Pesenti.

Yours is almost certainly is a Pesenti (or really good Italian builder). Not sure on a Cromor frame however.

Van Tuyl is a rather well-known Dutch brand, founded by Gijs van Tuyl in Zaltbommel. AFAIK he did build some frames himself, but soon went elsewhere. And yes, Andrea Pesenti was an important supplier. Another was Lithuanian Vitas Zukauskas, a former Colnago frame builder.

Gijs sold the brand in the 2004 or 2005.

I have a few of them, the nicest one being my first venture into touring bikes. 60cm turned out to be a little too small, as you can see. It didn't keep me from enjoying it though:

Another one is this frame I got for my girl. It's still got the name of an amateur racer on the "top" tube. Probably of Belgian origin:

Another "Racing Feather", as Van Tuyl's bikes were often called. Very scruffy, but the Columbus frame could be a Pasenti. Still in as-bought condition, I'm afraid.

Not really, but a guy on another forum has one with tulip cut outs in the lugs and BB shell, suggesting Somec may have made it. I believe Van Tuyl imported Somec frames, so getting some made probably isn't too much of a stretch.

I'll get a better idea of what I have gotten myself into once it arrives, but it has a Shimano 105 Italian BB, Primax-Rudelli headset and a seatpost of unknown origin...!

If I remember correct, jan van Dalen, the builder of Duell frames also build the Van tuyl frames.
But of course I could be mistaken.
