Did some much needed cleaning and maintenance from the wet last ride on this bike. Also lowered the stem 50mm and reluctantly took the Scott Pederson canti's off and put Shimano LX cati's on. The Scott Pederson canti's are going on my Sakae Litage project.

The good thing is the lower canti's now match the levers. I'm trying soft trials compound pads that were cheap but I don't think these brakes will ever work as good as the Pederson cati's what ever pads are in.

good riddance to the isozone handlebars. the grips are nice until you add that mickey mouse bar end kit. when the kit is added it removes stability in the grips so they turn a little soft and floppy.

Well, I finally opened a Photobucket account so I could share some pictures. I did a few things the last 2 weeks to my bike. It's a Giant Escape 1.

The last 2 weeks have been busy. I installed:

XTR shifter/brake combo levers
XTR v-brakes
XT front and rear Deraileaurs
Azonic 420 pedals
Ergon GC5 grips

The next mods may be a Thomson stem, handlebar, and seatpost that I have laying around. I haven't decided if they are going on this bike or not.

Anyway, here's the pics:

I've done a few related things over the last month. Due to an Unfortunate Incident involving an unsecured strap on the car's trunk rack , I replaced the seat with another (though a little different) Body Geometry Riva. The handlebars have been replaced with Truvative Stylo T30 Flat Bars. The bar ends are now Body Geometry Contour Targa Grip/Bar Ends. I upgraded the flat alloy pedals with Shimano M324 SPDs, and because of 100 degree temps, added another bottle cage for the summer...

Due to all the changes, my LBS threw in an updated Body Geometry fitting and adjusted the FD and RD. Whew.

Are the frame and wheels next on the upgrade list?

LOL! I just got a new saddle, bontrager nebula plus. The frame and fork will be the only thing left of the original bike, but wheels will be next. This is my partners fault. He didn't like the idea of me buying an expensive new bike. I wanted a sirrus carbon. But he was ok with me buying a cheaper bike and upgrading. He makes no sense. He sees all this other stuff as "trinkets" and I'm free to change whatever I want with no complaints. My other alternative was to build one from the ground up, but he didn't like that idea either. And with my parts bin and eBay, I'll only be in this bike for $1100. That's without a new wheel set.

This is weekend I'll be installing a Thomson stem because I want a lower riding position. A Thomson layback seatpost and clamp (just cause the one I have is polished and it's pretty), crank brothers handlebar because I want a light one and I found this one on eBay for a steal, and rounding it all out will be a shimano Deore lx crank, only because the acera one is ugly lol.

So all in all, for $1100, I'll have a very unique commuter that no one else has. I'm keeping an eye out for a lighter wheel set. The ones I have are boat anchors.

And finally I'll add that even if I would have bought the carbon sirrus, I would have upgraded it anyway .

Bought, and put on a pair of Bontrager H5 32mm tyres. Absolute bargain price $15 for the pair. The ride is oh so smooth, but a little heavier than my Rubino Pros. I decided a few weeks ago to change from road only, to compacted dirt trail. Looks fantastic and rides well. Sadly a typhoon is approaching so riding it will be out for a few days. Photos later as it's raining and blowing gail outside.

My wife and I took ours on a short 11 mile ride this afternoon from Starkey Park to the Havana Dreamers Café and back. Both bikes and riders took baths about 7.5 miles into the ride, compliments of mother nature. After we got home and dried off, I mounted the bike hangers I had picked up a couple of days ago in our garage and got them up safe and out of the way when were not riding.

Ok here it is before with 23mm tyres and clipless pedals

And after with 32mm tyres and flat pedals. Surprisingly these Bontagers fit within the frame with much more clearance than my old Kenda Small Blocks. Also sorry I didn't realize I used my flash until I finished taking the pics, hence the refective Cannondale stickers showing.

Realizing dawn is coming later and later, got an Orp for the front and a Serfas Led tail light so I can continue to ride before work most morning. Can't wait to try out the Orp horn on the sometimes busy greenway path I ride on weekends.
Also got some Purple Extreme for the chain and cleaned the bike up a bit.

Not today, but this weekend, I changed the stem and seatpost to Thomson Elite, Handlebar to an Iodine 2 and change the crank to a Shimano LX. And then I gave the chain and cassette a nice cleaning. For today, I'm gonna go for a ride

Replaced my DIY lights set by a IQ Cyo Premium and Toplight Line Plus. These lights are great, especially the headlight.

Since the demise of my 29er I've today taken the bars seat and post off and returned them to my JBC where they came from so I can start riding it again (been over 2 years since I've ridden it) Parts like the wheels cassette brakes and shifters will stay on the 29er and I've made use of the parts bin for now to complete the bike, so it's not as high spec as it once was but still a tasty bike.

So this is where I started the reassembly after a good clean and polish

and some close up shots of it put together. Some unusual spec's of this bike you may notice are it's a 26 inch carbon mountain bike frame matched to 700c wheels a carbon cyclocross fork and more unusual are a compact road crank and Ultegra derailleur.

note how close the big ring is to the chain stay no problems with it though.

wheels came from my Scott P1 Sportster. I intend to sell that frame and fork on ebay some time along with other parts.

It's been far to windy and wet to take the bike outside for full pic's so that'll come later.
