Cannondale recall notice in the Australia newspapers.
2007 & 2008 Cannondale Road and Mountain Bikes with 2-piece Carbon Cranksets.
Apparently..
"FSA incorrectly heat treated the aluminium bottom bracket spindles on some of these bikes. This manufacturing error caused cracks that can lead to a complete crankset failure, with risk of SERIOUS INJURY or DEATH."
Carbon fibre is the devils workshop! Don't tell the roadies

Just wondering, but if this is an FSA part that is failing, shouldn't FSA who is truly the party that is legally liable do the recall instead of Cannondale?

if it's a part exclusive to cannondale then they are the recallers, not fsa as they did not sell it to the customer.

FSA however, are notorious for shoddy manufacturing techniques and crap products.

Oh, I see. I didn't know that particular FSA bottom bracket was only on Cannondales. Hypothetically though, if a person crashed their Cannondale because of the defective part, would FSA also share some of the liability and therefore the medical bills of the crashed rider?

This reminds me of the Lithium-Ion laptop battery fiascos with LG and Sony. Their batteries were in many manufacturer's computers (HP, Dell, Apple), and when those companies issued recalls LG and Sony were forced to cover the cost of the entire thing.

Yup, had to deal with this in the shop. We pulled the cranks off all the bikes with 'em, and checked the spindles... unfortunately the tell-tale signs look just like the scratches made during installation, so we just warrentee'd all of them.
And those were really sexy looking cranks too, with the gloss C'dale logo on matte CF cranks.
