Need 10 posts

I need ten posts in order to upload an image. Is there any way around this?

No, but when you get to ten, what. Image are you going to post? A bike?

What some do is to use a third party photo service (I use Flicker, for now as it's been sold..) then type in the link avoiding a real link nomenclature.

Patience grasshopper. Ask questions on other's posts, Post about tooling or such. Engage others and you'll get to that threshold soon enough. Andy

Hi, welcome to Bike Forums. Ok, so you need 10 posts, we understand, but there's a better way to get to 10 without littering up the forums with junk posts. Posting your image will have to wait 2 or 3 days, that's all. Instead of junk posts, take some time and patiently visit other parts of the forum. Amongst all the threads you encounter I'm sure you can find some topics of interest where you can share some meaningful thoughts. You just need five of those the first day and another five posts the second day, and you've reached your 10.

But they can't be junk posts or nonsense posts that just litter the forums. Have a little patience and explore all of Bike Forums. Enjoy!

It's quite a bothersome function of the website. Especially if someone discovers your website and has time sensitive questions to ask. It appears it is one of the biggest bike forums on the web...if that being the case, rather than focus on "inclusion" make it more accessible and user friendly to anyone rather than just a unique community you are striving for.

If forum "litter" is such a problem, then it keeps admins busy doing their jobs rather than dictating and being inclusive. It's 2018 and good and healthy communities are working on trying to be more open and helpful, kind of thinking out of the box for folks needs, rather than inclusion.

Just my personal thoughts since it is frustrating trying to communicate in the first 48 hours...especially when someone has a new toy and has tons of questions that you make them wait 2 days...

But to each it's own.

Hope this wasn't "trash" that clutters your electronic cyber space reality

In the past, newbies were able to add photos using the "Attachments".

Go to the Advanced editor and click on the paper clip (Attachnents).

I'm not quite sure what all the new updates brought, but it is worth trying.

Also keep in mind that newbies can only post 5 messages a day... so use them wisely.

I find that boring too. Especially, I've used to write a nice introduction with pictures of my bikes. But I couldn't post it. May be that the Introduction sub forum could be OK to post images even for newbees.

+1 post... 5 to come !!!

Such a shame. Really takes the wind out of your sails to participate with all the problems trying to post. I reach my 10 posts and now they have another quota of 5 posts per day and I still can't communicate effectively.

Not even worth the hassles and growing pains with 2018 technology.

Amazing how much folks and communities shoot themselves in their own foot with a little power

Have a great day!
I don't like it but I can understand the editorial point. It's actually a good way to avoid trolls, and also avoid newbies only asking one question and leaving. They must think : better a small number of involved participants rather than a larger number of distant people. I can understand that even if it prevent me to ask a question

Actually, it is an anti spam tool. And, it helps keep the all volunteer moderation staff more available to assist forum members.

We do not close or delete accounts. If you don't want to participate in the forum, simply log off and don't log back in.

It does cause a few people not to participate, because a lot of people want to post a picture or link for their first post. Unfortunately, so do spammers. This forum has some of the least spam of any I participate on, and that takes a lot of work. Limitations on new members are really common on forums. Particularly forums that don't have a lot of spam.

You can turn off emails from your profile.

Thank you for understanding. The 5-post and 10-post restrictions were improvised as an effective means of keeping the forum from being overrun by spammers and trolls, who would quickly make this entire forum a malicious wasteland of ads, schemes, gimmicks, porn and other unpleasantries. The fact that spammers are not more conspicuous on these forums is due not only to these restrictions, but to the efforts of the unpaid, volunteer mod staff. This is not our "job", the mod staff is just a small group of regular members giving up their personal free time to help keep these forums an enjoyable place for all to visit.

We appreciate those members who are thoughtful enough to appreciate our services, and thank you for helping to spread the realities of internet forums to all members. We deeply regret that the 10 post restriction is an inconvenience to new members. But until such time as technology can devise some sort of magical software that can screen out malicious posts from benign ones, some minor concessions will have to be made. If there was a better way we would surely employ it. Thanks for understanding.

I think the idea of no links in the first few posts is just fine.

Maybe some warning before users get locked out on their 5th post?

Photos, on the other hand, are an important part of the forum. So many "mechanics" issues are best served with photos. For example, determining the difference between freewheels and freehubs, looking at wear, chain routing, etc.

Bike appraisals?

Does the old method of loading photos as attachments still work for newbies? It is a little counter-intuitive of a system, but had worked for them in the past.

A lot of familiar features are still being ironed out in the recent upgrade, so I can't say for sure. Photo posting is one of the big issues.

We have a new photo uploader now, just click on the photo icon I've circled in red.

I'll have to check that out more later, but for now, that is a huge resource hog, and very disagreeable with my laptop.

However, the new system appears to be uploading images as an external hyperlink to: https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/.

Part of the issue is that the newbie filter doesn't differentiate between ... and . I presume the URLs are the problem with SPAM, and not the images.

With the previous method of uploading images as attachments, some newbies were successfully able to upload images (as they didn't show up as hyperlinks).

So far I haven.t seen any confirmations that newbies are able to use the new image upload system, so I presume it is still being slammed by the URL filter.

Most of the membership appreciates that they don't wake up to 250 spam messages in every sub forum in different languages, introducing everything from porn to getting fake passports. After that one night that we did one early morning before the program, it was a lot of work locating, reporting, researching, deleting and then finally banning the spambot.

You are correct, I've tried every which way to post a photo and it keeps coming back with the 10 post requirement for URLs.

Lol, it wouldn't even let me quote your URL in your post.

Even for the presentations forum (where you may want to post a picture of your bike), you get this limit. So you can't introduce yourself properly.
