Looking for Ofmega hub cones - will Campagnolo work?

I think I have just about all the parts needed to put my previously abandoned 1983 Bianchi Nuovo Record together (here is the background).

One thing that I can't seem to figure out / find is new front and rear cones for the Ofmega hubs. This thread (link) seems to suggest that Campagnolo would work. IF so, do I need to buy both the axles and the cones? Or would Campi bolt onto my Ofmega axles? Something else?

Thanks in advance - it will be great to get this one on the road, as we still have a few months of riding weather left.

My go to place to answer these questions used to be Wheels Manufacturing but they look all shimano now. Did you check Sir Sheldon's pages.

I think they might work but you may indeed need the whole axle set

My recollection is that Ofmega did not follow Campagnolo in using 26tpi hub axle threads. I seem to recall having to use a complete Campagnolo axle and cone set when my wife's Avocet (made by Ofmega) front cones died.

Thanks, guys!!

I found a guy on eBay who will sell me both of the complete axles (Campy) for $100. Worth it? Keep looking? Get a complete wheelset instead?

Loosescrews.com still has rear Campy axle sets for $32.00 after the 20% discount.

$100 for two axle sets is a bit rich for me. I don't know if the Ofmega hubs are worth saving, or wait for a used pair of Campy Record hubbed wheels for that price.

what Sutherlands says is that the Front axles are virtually the same for hollow (QR) axles of both Campy and "Italian" which I believe covers all the other Italian brands (but YRMV), the only diff might be a mm of overall length...all use the 26tpi that Campy uses. Rear axles however depart: Campy uses 10mm x 26tpi and "Italian" is 9.5mm x 26tpi. also not sure which use a slot for tabbed lock washer.
And this info does NOT apply to Nuovo Tipo (AKA Gran Sport) or solid axles.
I'd go with Wheels Mfg. replacement axles, they are very reliable and cheaper than Campy, probably much better than original Ofmega.

SO, how about this for a blended solution?

- Keep my existing Ofmega front axle and locknuts, and just get some new cones.
- Replace the rear with an all new Campi axle set from Loosescrews.

could work for the front, but make sure a 10mm axle will fit in your Ofmega rear hub shell...if it's intended for a 9.5mm you may have a problem.
Wheels mfg does not list cones for Campy (or any other European brand) but you might find that something in their "Taiwan" cone offerings might work. Check their online chart very carefully for the both threading and the dimensions, as well as the picture of the cone (which we hope is accurate) for a match...their cones are also very fine quality, IF you find a good match, that is.
