Mercier Road Bike 74 Improved Restoration.
Hello,
This is Nasos ,i am from Greece and i did a restoration but not in the classic way.
Some heavy damaged parts were replaced and installed new ones to make a better cycle for road use.
This was my brother's bike and it was in a warehouse for more than 35 years not in good storage conditions.
During the guarantine period i need to find something to be creative, and the first thing that came in my mind was the old mercier.
It took one and a half month to be done, and i did everything except the sandblast(i dont have that kind of equipment)
.All photos are before and after.
All parts(depending on the amount of damage they had)are cleaned, with hot water and soap, then with dremel ,metal brush ,then scotch bright, and after that with sand papers from 80 up to 2500 to have the right result, and polish.
All photos are before and after.
Please Enjoy.
Lets start with the shifters

That's a big job getting that bike up and running. Looking forward to seeing the bike when it's done.

One of the better looking restoration jobs that I've seen in a while on BF. That was a lot of work and the bike came out great.

When i had finished the paint work he came in the house ,he past the frame ,he stops ,return and ask me ,is this the bike? And now he order a set of decals as a present
But a black seat post? The bike calls out for a silver post, IMHO.[/QUOTE]
If you see the parallel lines from side(seat post and fork)are blackish and silver gold, but thank you for your suggestion.
Everything started from the red brake washers,so i need a color to be have red but to be dark that can match with black, and so porsche mahogany metallic is the one and the other is a red gold silver from subaru and hyundai(i don't remember the color name). When i found the colors i choose the red cables, and brake pads, also the black shift wires ,because i want them to be invisible.
Thank you very much all of you.

Nice refurbish....! Nice to see an old Mercier up & running 👍
My1st road bike was a Mercier. Crashed it one nite while riding while it was near dark. Wrecked it by all accounts w/ a bent frame & fork. Lesson learned...

Very nice, good job, well done, please believe me when I tell you this is not lost on us, many pitfalls here that you navigated better than most.
It would appear you are not new to this, when do you start on the red upright bike in the back?
