I use bar mitts too. Torso hands face and feet were good for the 35 minutes. My thighs started to burn at the end. I think I was about right, but need to up the leg protection.

19°F with a wind-chill/"Real Feel" of 11°F ...plus at 6:30AM it was still pitch black out. Remind me again why we do this?

Rode for just over an hour, almost entirely easy spinning (as recovery from yesterday's long hard effort...but also because it's kinda hard to put out too much effort when you're dressed like the Michelin Tire Man). Fingers started to tingle towards the end -- I am supremely underwhelmed by that Assos glove system, despite the fact that two out of the three individual components seem to out-perform any of their equivalents -- but otherwise was dressed okay.

Wore the same today at dusk, 3*F 8 mph se wind.

Abdomen and legs had under armour mid weight legging, pearl izumi padded lycra shorts, under armour wind breaking slacks over it all.
Torso had under armour compression cold gear long sleeve turtle neck, lightweight wicking hoodie with wind jacket over top.
Head and neck got two layers of turtle fur, first layer a simple tube, second layer was a bacalava. Wore clear safety glasses, and normal helmet.

Hands got pearl izumi full length 40-60*f gloves, then bar mits on bike.

This setup worked great for mild output. Rode around on some gravel but mostly pavement, a little snow.

Hands not overly sweaty, hoodie dry. I wear the boots in anything below 15*F. I've had great luck in using the under armor windproof light workout slacks in anything from 0*F to 50*F when also possibly combined with a single piece of base layer.

My riding is all recreational, and this is my usual wardrobe, with less base layers used when warmer.

In my experience, it's always mostly headwind -- just like most of my rides are uphill both ways...

21F today. Wore 5 layers torso, plus a newspaper. Bib tights, amphib tights, balaclava, etc. Chemical warmers in gloves and shoes. Fingers were cold for first half hour. Only 32 miles and was relatively pleasant the last half.

how did you use them in the gloves? meaning where or in what position did you keep them? some gloves have pockets for warmers but the pockets are on the back of the hand. I have a pair like that but haven't tried warmers with them yet

The warmers rest on the back of my hands as close to the fingers as possible. If my gloves had pockets I would use them. I drop the warmers in the gloves, maneuver them around, then pull the gloves on. They stay warm a long,long time.

Chemical warmers for the feet and hands, I guess. And I might have started out without the vest on, but then put it on for the last third of the ride.

Today I wore:

Head: Merino balaclava, homemade wool face wrap gaiter thing, ski goggles, snowboard helmet.

Torso: Thin merino baselayer (Ibex Woolies 1), normal merino baselayer (Icebreaker 100g or some such), Mammut Ultimate Hoody.

Legs: Cycling shorts, synthetic long underwear, fleece long underwear, poly blend ribbed tights.

Feet: REI Expedition socks, knee high winter boots, Hot Hands foot warmers.

Hands: Dakine Sequoia gloves - fleece liner + shell combo.

Conditions: 0F/-18C, sunny, N wind 5-10 MPH. Outdoor time 2h 10m; ride time 1h 43m. (Met up with a group partway through.)

Notes: Torso/legs/hands were PERFECT...core kept warm and only slightly sweaty.
Hands got sweaty but the gloves let out some moisture that formed ice crystals.
Toes got cold; the chemical warmers were ice cold when I took off my boots.
Head and face OK; only minor goggle fogging in the last mile.

Fogging goggles solved ?

I use an old Iditarod trick I saw back in 09 of Jay Petervary,a veteran rider of the 1000 mi trip to Nome. In addition to wearing a balaclava, I cover my nose and cheeks with a fleece headband. This gives my breath an opening to escape without going up my goggles when covered with the balaclava. This is my 11th winter of daily commuting. I always had fogging problems below 10'f. I used it at 0'f and it worked great.

Took an easy ride today. Not pushing it. If I had been trying to ride harder today I would have ditched the Wind Breaker altogether and wore a thinner top base layer. Comfy for an easy lazy ride though!

Everything was fine except I couldn't feel my fingers were killing me after about 10-15 minutes. I just ordered some Bar Mitts from eBay. Hope that helps!

the barmitts are a great wind screen so that you can wear thinner gloves (sometimes). I found mine had room for my warmer gloves on the coldest days. it might be a snugger fit but it should still be fine getting your hands in & out. what I remember from last year is to keep my hands as warm as possible when I am getting ready to ride. even keeping my gloves inside my shirt & wearing other gloves to fiddle with whatever. meaning don't let your hands chill before getting the gloves on. I even breath heavy into my gloves before putting them on to help boost their warmth before the ride even starts. I can do this mid ride as well. here's what my hands do on very cold days (17F actual): I start warm enough, they chill as I ride, but then after about 20-30 min they warm up again. before that warmup begins, I sometimes have to make a fist, or pulse my grip, or breath into the gloves, but then I'm golden. when you start using them, post up some pics & a review & any questions you have

Cycling is sports and everyone should try it even I too try it, riding the cycle is fun and interesting and it becomes more interesting when we have all the accessories.
And I too went for cycling with my accessories and kit my accessories have hand gloves, helment, safety pad, jacket, water bottle, and some snacks with me.
