old french bike spindle or axle problem

Hi! I have a old french bike with the name (cycles by Jacques Anquetil). Still I dont know who manufactured this roadbike. But anyway the problem is that the bike has an old cotter crank. Now I'am
trying to just put on another update crank like Sugino or Bulletproof crank you know square spindle.
I measured the bb case is 68mm and I measured the old spindle 35 left 55 middle and 47 right= 137.
the cups look good they measure 35mm. Is it possible to just add a spindle or axle square version using the bearings and the cups that I have. Can anyone help me please I'am cofused.

Yes. Replacing your spindle with a 68mm square taper should work.

Check out SB's website: https://sheldonbrown.com/harris/botto...ets.html#axles

Do a search for Jacques Anquetil before you do a conversion. It might be a bike that has a collector value, if you're into that. Anquetil was a 5 time winner of T-d-F

Anquetil's were made of gas pipe. No value, but the headbadge is very cool.

I have an Anquetil that I converted (my dad's bike from the 70s, actually). Mine's not gaspipe, but it's a good beater - a little heavy but very solid. I have heard that they were rebranded Peugeots (possibly for the Canadian market). And yeah, swap out the spindle unless you want to pay out the bunghole for a French threaded BB.
