Punishment Ride
I was a bad boy on Friday night . Built a fire in the backyard fire pit some friends came over and I consumed 18 beers Keystone Light basically water beer but it is cheap and cold so that adds up to 1,818 calories. So today I push the pedals on my gravel grinder hard for 33 miles in about 2 1/2 hours to burn off last nights gluttony. Sweating out the beer made me feel better and I know I will do it again

Sounds like I’m an alcoholic . I’m not an everyday drinker and I usually don’t consume that much beer since it is unhealthy. So the hangover ride was a recovery/punishment and no beer Saturday night. It was the peer pressure

Keystone Light? That's roughly equivalent to drinking 4 beers and 14 glasses of water. You should have been adequately hydrated.
Their "Grab Life by the Stones" motto sounds about right for gravel grinding.

Yup, much as I hate to admit it, some of the cheaper American beers -- Keystone, Busch, Hamm's, Lone Star, etc. -- really are pretty refreshing when ice cold and drunk with heavily seasoned foods like BBQ, Mexican, etc.
In fact, I'm drinking a Keystone Ice right now with some bone-in pork roast I had marinating in homemade fajita seasoning, pan-fried until scorched on the outside, then slow-cooked for 12 hours to tenderize. Closest I've gotten to the flavor and texture of slow-smoked outdoor BBQ.
Much as I enjoy the local craft brews, especially those made by local cycling friends who opened their own microbrewery last year, sometimes a crisp, low alcohol American beer tastes better with food.
The dehydration thing is tricky. Most recent NIH studies published in PubMed indicate moderate intake of beer doesn't cause dehydration. Same with moderate intake of caffeine, especially in folks who routinely drink moderate amounts of caffeine or alcohol -- the body adapts quickly.
But 18 beers? Even Keystone is pushing the limits of what the body can cope with.
I was a Navy Corpsman so naturally I was around a lot of heavy drinkers, even though I drank very little myself back then (and only moderately now).
On the one hand, one of the toughest guys I knew was a Marine Staff Sergeant who could come back from a Las Vegas weekend of heavy drinking without sleep and still outdo me on the physical fitness test, especially the run. I was half his age and worked out hard, but that guy was a machine. As far as I know, he was a binge drinker on leave and vacation, not a heavy daily drinker. No way he could have functioned doing that daily.
On the other hand, as a Corpsman, many of my patients were Navy and Marine NCOs, lifers who drank a case of beer daily and ended up with kidney and liver failure. We're talking many years of heavy daily drinking, not just an occasional binge on vacation.
Another patient -- actually, a corpse -- was the dependent wife of a military veteran. She literally overdosed on water. One of the main risks of excessive beer drinking is hyper-hydration, water toxemia or plain old overdosing on water, even aside from the relatively moderate alcohol content. It can cause spikes in blood pressure with risks of stroke and other complications, diluting the sodium and other electrolytes too much, etc. With higher concentrations of alcohol in wine and some mixed drinks, many folks tend to vomit after awhile. But low alcohol beers can be consumed in massive quantities by some folks. Wrestler/actor Andre the Giant was notorious for his beer drinking capacity.
So, moderation, etc.

Seems better not to drink in the first place.
Doesn't seem to do anyone any good and winds up ruining many lives.

I will say this, I have only gone on a ride once after a night of drinking. I will NEVER do it again. I was so miserable the entire time, even though it was a gorgeous day out and the weather was perfect. I had to refill both water bottles (each 26oz) a couple of times. Sweating the alcohol out has never felt GOOD for me. Beer of choice was Bud Light the night before.

I am a bigger fan of rewards, positive reinforcement. A few good beers after a ride, or run or whatever, but as a reward for doing well.
On that topic, I don't see why we should have to put up with Coors or Keystone or other beers of that variety. Yuengling is not bad, American beer.

The label on a bottle of wine doesn’t say anything about calories, so I treat it as if there aren’t any. For as often as I drink, that works. Beth and I might polish off a bottle of Community Red every month or two.

Wine definitely has calories, but unless you're trying to lose weigh and counting every calorie a glass here and there won't amount to much (about 110-150 a glass for most reds).

I had my third glass of Community Red in as many weeks last night. I'm on a roll! It's 26 F and there's snow on the ground, it feels like I'm in the Methow a little bit.

Thanks for that! It's a fruit drink, it can't be without calories, but I didn't even know the ballpark.

Glad you are back.
People joke about it - 18 beers and then rode 2 hours to punish myself, yuk-yuk - as if it is funny.
It is destructive behavior and "I know I will do it again" means it is a problem. Joking about it and being polite doesn't do anyone any good.
I've said what I have to say.

After a good sunny day riding some MTB trails I have been known to gulp down a couple of ice cold micheladas.
