Bottechia Professional

I

scored a mid to late 80s Bottecchia Professional, $55. It looks like it hung in a temperature controlled space for 35 years, it's covered in dust and webs. This bike appears to be an entry level racing bike. Aelle Columbus tubing on the main triangle, but the fork and stays are Hi-ten, the Campagnolo components are on the lower end.
I plan on cleaning this up and selling, it's too small for me. Too bad, the colors are amazing, it's a great looking bike. My days are always better with a new bike to play with, I will enjoy making this nice for someone.

That's going to clean up nicely and for sure is worth more than $55. Nice find

Score! I love that paint job. Do post a pic when it's done. It will be nice to see it all cleaned up.

Entry level model circa 1990-1991 with Columbus Aelle Tretubi and partial Campagnolo Xenon group (bottom of the line).

yes, 1990 is about right. that is the ADR Team replica, like Greg LeMond rode in 1989 TdFrance. I have the same frame in SL. i bought it off a friend for $400 which included shimano 105 components, frame is immaculate. no wheels. so you did very well.

Greg Lemond bike huh! Maybe Jamesdak wants it now. Looks like your size. It's brand new under the dust.

Those brake levers are really nice and the hoods appear to be in excellent condition.

They are the Century finish but I cannot tell which group they belong to, maybe Athena?

Those alone are worth what you paid, I am sure.

The Professional was the top of the line in '72. Does it have Professioal on it somewhere? Was the model demoted?

I think they had the "Professional" decal pretty much on all or most of their race bike models during the late 80's.
My 1989 SL Chorus also has the decal on the left chainstay. The frame design (geometry) must have been the same for all of them, with just the paintjob, amount of chrome and tubing types differing between models.

Even an entry level Bottecchia is a nice bike, and for $55 a score. It don’t get much better than that! Every mile is going to be fun and that bike deserves to be on the road. It has been on lock down way too long. Too bad it is the wrong size , it will find a good home with someone who will ride it . You should do ok and it looks like it doesn’t need much , new tires and bar wrap adjustment maybe a seat. Joe

Beautiful bike and great score. Your daughter is so lucky! I almost got that color scheme a couple of years ago, but someone beat me to it. Still looking!
