I have a soft spot for Mongoose anyways growing up in CA during the 80's when California Brands like Mongoose, GT, Diamond Back, Centurion were in full swing with good bikes. and it to be Ti, thats even better!

Updated my '94 Stumpy. Harvested some LX parts(wheels, cranks, pedals) from a Rockhopper that my buddy gave me. Now my Stumpy has mostly LX save for the levers and shifters.

There's a very "engineered" look to those Deore LX mechs that I've always loved. No-nonsense.

I seem to have a knack for $25 garage sale bikes. Found an unmolested Hardrock this morning. They even put two gel covers on to preserve the saddle. The tires are Specialized fatboys, so I’ll bet the original owner had the shop put em on when he bought it.

Looks like an 87. I have one in a larger size. It makes a nice commuter and gravel bike if you don't mind the weight. Would you get a picture of the shifters and levers? Mine was all original except for the bars, shifter and brake levers. I am curious what it came with.

Already started tearing into it! Steel riser bar 26mm, unmarked motorcycle style levers, and Suntour index thumbies “for 5000 7000 9000 derailleurs”. Oh, and foam grips!

Well, it doesn’t happy very often! I expected the tag to say $125, in which case I might have passed on it. I really like the red, though, so I would have kicked myself. I had an 87 Jamis Cross Country with those shifters, my first index, and I thought they were great, so I’m looking forward to it.

I have an 87 in teal. $200 in great condition. $25 is an absolute steal!

I love both of the colors they offered that year. I'll have to get a pic of mine and post it now.

Here's mine. I have a set of Soma Clarence Bars on it now but I hope to get back to drop bars once I figure out why the drops started to make my hands hurt.

That’s very nice looking! I might go that route with mine after I ride it around a bit in original form.

Great link. And a parts list, too! Thanks.

That is excellent reading for anyone interested in converting old mountain bikes to 1x10.

My 93 Mongoose Rockadile arrives tomorrow and I can’t wait to get into restoring it a bit. I’m also going to look at a Diamond Back someone offered me. It should be of similar vintage.

Kind of an odd one here - posted many moons ago but thought I’d re post for kicks. I’m guessing early 90’s - 1-1/8” headset, seat tube ovalized at BB, sloping top tube, and 135 rear spacing. Considering mounting a roller cam brake to peg the interesting meter.
As if the funky frame wasn’t interesting enough...

Shoot, you could have gotten a roller-cam rear brake for $5.00 today, with a free bike attached. Someone posted a late '80s (I think) Dorado Sherpa, kind of a mid-level looking bike, with a chainstay-mounted roller-cam, on CL earlier today. Lasted less than an hour.

I wonder what those two rows of round marks in the paint on the seat tube are. Some band-mounted accessory previously mounted?

Front derailleur. Dimples from the inside of the band. I have a roller cam to use but I’m not really sure which direction I want to go.... leaning towards a U brake for simplicity’s sake. But a roller certainty has its appeal

Ritchey Ascent

Ritchey Ascent back in action again.

Bike was pretty much a barn find, so cleaning was quick.

Took me longest adjusting the rear roller cam brakes , but overall a straight forward over haul.

Sim Works tires make a good looking replacement.
