Metric Century

I just want to take this time to brag that after two previous attempts which were cut short by severe leg cramps, I finally attained a metric century this past weekend. I ended up with 65 miles. Could have gone longer since the body was willing, but the spirit was weak. By the time I was close to reaching my goal, I just felt like I wanted to get off the bike for the day.

Now, on to a full century. My goal was to do it this year, but not sure if I'll get the time to train up for it or not.

Good job!

You're probably closer to that imperial century than you think, but there's no reason to rush into anything. Take your time and enjoy the fact that you hit this goal.

Congrats on the metric and good luck on your full, imperial century! After 3 years I rode my first full century back in April. Now that I did it, I have no aspiration to do another. Keep this tip in mind, don't worry about the first 80 miles, the last 20 will be the toughest (or at least it was mentally difficult for me, the last 20-25 miles i kept asking myself what the heck I was doing...).

WOOT! Awesome! It gets easier and easier. I spent all summer training for my first metric. Then a whole different summer training for my first imperial century. After awhile, 100 miles is no longer a magic number. I fear I've become addicted to longer distances... you can get hooked too, if you want.

The long distance forum has lots of tips and suggestions for century rides.

Yep, the first 80 is easy, those last 20 miles are killer. All mental for me too, nothing left in the tank physically. Upon completion there is the the elation of finishing while at the same time thinking, "I don't need to do that again, at least no time soon."
I rode two centuries in 2015, none in 2016...kinda thinking about it again...

Congrats to the OP on your metric!

Awesome! I did my first metric last month and my second just this past Sunday. In my case, Sunday, my mind was willing, but my body was not. Hope you'll shoot for your next one soon!

Well I have a century ride coming up Labor Day weekend. I can decide to ride a metric century or go for a full century. If I'm feeling good at 63 miles, I'll likely try to go the full 102 on this ride.
