Winter - It's On

Today is the official start of "astronomical winter" in the northern hemisphere.

Just 89 days to go until astronomical spring!

Just seventy days to meteorological spring. Or as Shelly wrote "...if Winter comes, can Spring be far behind?"

Yeah, hah, it is supposed to hit the 50s this week in Boston.

Enjoy it while it lasts ... take it while you can

Lots of my riding buddies are off this and next week. We're going to milk this weather as much as we can. We've ridden three straight days now.

77 days until the spring solstice...

If you want a laugh, ESPN is already counting down the days until the start of the Pro Golf Masters Tournament...on April 9!

According to the Weather Channel, North-East blizzards on average start "peaking" now (January 14-31), and reach an apex around Feb 1-14

Yeah, well, we're getting a bit of an Arctic blast this week. The weather report suggests we may be getting a bit of a warming trend, although we are expecting another "slush storm" next weekend, as you mention

The weather man on Ch. 4 (Eric) said that on average January 18 is the coldest day in Boston.

The other weather man on Ch. 4 (Barry) says that on average February 1-4 is the coldest week in Boston. So I believe there is lots of fun still in store for us!

hmmm ... the possibilities ... my favorite is when I can ride the beginning of storm, then get home before everything shuts down, get a hot shower & 1/2 glass of red wine. if it starts too late like the last one, I'm home before the fun starts. slush tho, huh? guess that means wet snow, yuck

Just not another "snow-meggedon." The sidewalks can't take much more of this.

I can take the snow and the dark, but this year I'm starting to lose my patience with the cold, and it hasn't even gotten that cold yet

I'm seeing that the American Elm and Red Oak are starting to "baby-bud" a week or two early. I also noticed some crocus sprouts on my outdoor run yesterday
