What do you get for your Audax?
Hi guys. Just wanted to ask a couple of questions. I'm going to do my first 300km ride casually with my group of cycling friends and it got me thinking, as its a pretty big achievement for us, what do you guys get when you are riding or when you finish your audax events?
I was thinking of making it a memorable and fun event by doing something small like make up a "300km done" sticker, maybe a small "passport" which we can get the cafe people at the turnaround point & rest stops to sign as a "checkpoint". Maybe a small goodie pack of a salt sweet and a muesli bar for the ride at the start...
What do you guys get when you do an official audax event?

Medals. Thus the joke that we only do it for the medals. Rusa hasn't kept up this page, there are new medals now https://rusa.org/medalphotos.html
They are aboout 2" across

Official ACP medals. Local audax club-made medals or tokens. A sticker. And an official homologation number registered with the ACP.
(edit) An small example of stuff I have accumulated:

Our RBA got these for the three of us who completed the bleeding rando series last season.

that's nice, but I wouldn't know what to do with it. I'm only getting medals every 4 years when they change them

If it's a one-and-only, or the first, and it's an ACP event, get the ACP medal.
RUSA does have non-ACP brevets, which are not eligible for the medal.
If you're not in the US, check with your local club to see what's available and how you get it.
If you do a bunch of brevets, then you don't bother with the medals, as after a while, you'd have a sock drawer full of them, plus they cost money.
And if you do a bunch of this, you can get different awards, some with their own medals or other knickknacks.
Go for a picture or two regardless, so you can brag on Facebook or whatever.

Aha..ok. No its not an official event. Just a bunch of us in our casual cycling group who decided to just do a 300km'er. We don't have audax events where I am anyway (im overseas) so I thought I'd make it just that bit more special.
Its going to be a 8pm kickoff riding through the night and targeted to finish by noon the next morning.

If you post the ride on strava your followers may give you kudos.

I'd get some patches made instead of medals. I have a small pile of rando medals and I am already overwhelmed with them.

Still going with this, but I'll embellish.
I have medals in a drawer and a poster board hanging in the garage covered in brevet cards. I doubt either will make the cut next time we move. What I enjoy looking at, and will definitely keep, is a picture of a bunch of us sitting around a table eating breakfast after a Fleche. In the pic we all look half dead but grinning and laughing. I'd say arrange an after-ride meal, get someone to snap some pics, and get prints made for everyone. I know, prints are archaic these days, but having one pinned to the wall by your bikes will be a source of joy for years.

I keep my ACP medals in a small jewellery box shaped like a treasure chest. I like to imagine the thing like coins in a pirate's treasure chest... though at the moment it has gotten full and the larger-sized 2020 models isn't helping. Gotta find a bigger treasure chest-like box now

Thanks for the replies and ideas guys, appreciate it. I think yea i'll probably go for a printed picture or two to give out a while after the ride. True that it makes a more appreciated momento rather than an anonymous medal/cert

When two friends and I did our first 300 several years ago, one of the guys got us all matching T-shirts. I have got t shirts from a couple other rides I've done. Much more useful than medals.

Many countries have Audax events now.
And in answer to your question ... medals, a sense of accomplishment, knowing that I'm one step closer to qualifying for a 1200K if I wanted to do another one, and about 15 hours of sleep.

Speaking of audax events, I'll also add a caution that it seems the term audax gets thrown around very casually nowadays and not all audax events are actually audax (and yes, I realize there's actually audax vs brevet or randonneuring, but I'm not talking about this specific case). They're not associated with ACP, and sometimes not even in the spirit of an audax, it's just the name "audax" getting tacked on to a sportive or tour ride (e.g. Bali Audax). I'm pretty sure there are others, but I remember Bali Audax in particular because it always shows up in my local WhatsApp discussions and then people have to be reminded it's not related to ACP so it doesn't count towards Super Randonneur and other qualifications that people may be after).

True ... but ...
I meant one of these organisations/associations ... Randonneur Links See the list of National Associations. There are over 40 associations plus the collection in Canada.
This might be a better list. I think there are 66 listed here: https://www.randonneursmondiaux.org/5...nizations.html
So wherever "overseas" is ... chances are there might be one close by!

So many wrong answers.
What do you guys get when you do an official audax event? A new Audax bike!

Lol..I wish I could..will have to make do with what I have. Maybe I should not call it audax and just say "300km'er" instead as its not an official event of any sort.
Now I have a headache as what to bring in terms of food and power for lighting. Weather will not be cold, but here it is a big possiblity of being wet.

you want to save the awards for when the randonnesia kicks in anyway.

My first event with a randonneur club was a 'non-official' 100km ride, we got laser-engraved wood medals It's not that expensive to have made and it's a cool memento.
