Witnessed unusual fork handles in use

Was out riding yesterday. Saw another cyclist ahead of me in all lycra, with a very professional aero posture. I challenged myself to catch up and overtake (took about 0.75 miles!).

As I was passing him. I noticed that his hands were rested down at his forks! Given the context of overtaking (and then being so stubborn I had to keep boosting so that he wouldn't overtake me!) I didn't get the best look at his kit.

But riding with hands at the forks!! Wow. Is that a thing?

Welcome to the forum. Were his handlebars at fork level? Mountain bikers will occasionally ride holding on to the fork crown to get more aero. And there have been bikes built with handlebars at the fork crown level, but they are extremely rare.

Cheers! Yeah that explains it. Think it might have been a MTB but honestly I was too busy bonking at 20mph to really pay much attention.

Any chance of a photo/video of hands on fork crown?

I've seen Kate Courtney and Annika Langvad use that position in XC
