The Pro race mechanics use stands that just hold up the BB,
by the shell underneath .. with a bit of clearance for cables to move..

and support the fork by the dropouts where they removed the wheel.

You can buy pickup bed bike fork dropout clamp mount pieces
to do that latter part.

Here is the type of stand fietsbob was referring to: https://www.parktool.com/product/team-race-stand-prs-20

A home made version could be constructed using a truck or SUV/Van interior fork mount clamp like this: https://www.jensonusa.com/Truck-Bed-R...lutch-Fork-Bed mounted on a board or other support and an under bottom bracket support fabricated. Instead of a commercial fork mount, a pair of defunct qr hubs could be U-bolted to a support board so you could clamp either the fork or rear dropouts.

If you're working at home in a garage or basement with exposed rafters you can just run ropes over the beams and hang the bike by the seat and handlebar, using improvised hooks you can form from heavy wire. This is the type or "repair stand" favored by professional mechanics all over the world.

Yep. I have a Giant Defy Advanced with the teardrop-shaped seatpost. Not a round tube on that bike. The adapter kit works great. It also has adapters for a couple diameters of round seatposts also. There's some on sale on EBay right now.

Educate me...

Forgive my ignorance, but why can't you clamp/ support your aero frame at the balance- point of the top bar.

Can't you clamp on seat post instead of seat tube?

Thin tube frames, particularly carbon and aluminum, should not be clamped by the frame tubes as damaging or crushing them is all too easy. The seat post is far more crush-resistant and is much better as a clamping location. As described above, a repair stand that clamps to the fork or rear dropouts and supports the bike under the bottom bracket is a universal fit as it avoids the frame tubes completely.
